La Liga News: 22 December 2015: Ex-Barca Star Linked With Atleti Switch, Real Stadium Plans Rejected

Chelsea forward Pedro insists he is happy at Stamford Bridge and is not looking to return to Spain. Pedro joined the Blues from Barcelona for £21.4m in July but has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League. Atletico Madrid have been linked with the 28-year-old by weekly sports magazine Don Balon amid suggestions he is keen to return to La Liga following Jose Mourinho's sacking.
Real Madrid did win 10-2 over the weekend but the emphatic victory hasn't eased the pressure on Rafa Benitez. With speculation intensifying that Zinedine Zidane is next in line for the manager's job at the Bernabeu, ESPN FC's Graham Hunter writes this open letter explaining why the smart move would be for Zidane to turn it down.
Earlier this week Spanish paper AS reported that Lewandowski had left the door open to the La Liga move by stating, 'I'd rather not talk. It's not an easy situation.' But, on Tuesday, the same publication claimed there is one big obstacle in the giant striker's way, and that's incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti who has stipulated the 27-year-old must not be sold.
Elche are reportedly suing the LFP for more than €60m in damages after they were forcibly relegated at the end of last season. AS cites a report from Onda Cero that says the club are taking the action in light of television money they would have received had they not been demoted, a decision with which Los Franjiverdes still disagree.
"Why can’t I be here longer?" Simeone said in El Pais on Monday when asked about leaving Atlético, in an interview conducted before Mourinho’s departure. "Why did I choose a five-year contract? Because I see a club that is ‘virgin’ and Miguel Ángel [Gil Marín, the chief executive] and Enrique [Cerezo, the president] have the ability to open up new sources to strengthen in. It’s not easy to leave Atlético."
Now, however, the Madrid City Council has rejected the current renovation plan for the stadium. Speaking with local media, Chief of Sustainable Urban Development, José Manuel Calvo, explained that the current authorities will only support projects that are "consistent with public interest, [that] don’t involve new uses of public land and that are confined exclusively to the area currently occupied by the stadium’s facilities."
