Luis Enrique's table-topping FC Barcelona will play their final match before the FIFA Club World Cup today, when they host draw specialists, Deportivo La Coruna at the Camp Nou. Victor Sanchez' side have drawn 50% of their matches thus far this La Liga season, which has been good enough to see them climb the table into sixth place -- ahead of Valencia CF, Sevilla FC and Athletic Bilbao.
Their record of two losses from their opening 14 matches is equal to the top three, so Enrique is under no illusions as to how difficult today's clash will be. Last season, Deportivo fought back from a two-goal deficit to claim a draw in Xavi's final La Liga appearance at the Camp Nou; they will look back at that result and feel confident in their chances of repeating the upset this time around.
From a defensive standpoint, Depor can boast the third best record away from home (better than Barcelona's) and in star striker, Lucas Perez, they can count on a player who is currently tied with Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the Pichichi. Basically, what I'm trying to reiterate is that this is a tough match and that Barça will have to be at their best to claim all three points. Of course, with Luis Suarez in the form of his life, we could do just that -- but don't be surprised if this is a tight encounter that's decided late by a moment of magic.
