Barcelona are through to the 2015 Club World Cup FInal with an easy 3-0 victory over Guangzhou Evergrande, thanks to a hat-trick from Luis Suárez and a sublime performance from Andrés Iniesta. The Blaugrana did not have Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr., but ultimately dominated the match en route to a comfortable victory and now have a date set with River Plate on Sunday for the chance of winning the fifth trophy of this calendar year.
FIRST HALF
It was almost like a La Liga match at Camp Nou against a relegation candidate. Barça dominated possession, almost reaching the 80-percent mark in the initial period. Guangzhou predictably parked the bus, crowding the middle of the box and letting the Blaugranes pass the ball around. The Catalans know how to do this, so they patiently waited for their chances.
They got a few thanks to a very energetic half by Andrés Iniesta, who was all over the place, touching the ball often and getting involved in plenty of attacking plays. But the rarity of chances started to make the game a little boring, but one play changed it in the wrong way. Guangzhou defender Zheng landed the wrong way after going for a header in his own box and broke his leg in a gruesome fashion.
A few minutes later, Rakitic shot a rocket to the goalkeeper, who couldn't secure the ball which fell right in front of El Pistolero, and Luis Suárez did not miss and left-footed it to the top corner for the first goal. The Chinese went forward and occupied Barça's box in search of the equalizer, came close with a header that required a beautiful save from Claudio Bravo, but could not find the goal.
One half in the books, the lead and an easy game. All according to plan.
SECOND HALF
As the second half began, Barça continued to control, and Iniesta continued to be amazing. The skipper played a sensational lob to the chest of The Uruguayan, and Suárez doubled his scoring and the game lead. Fifteen minutes later, Dani Alves and Munir had a nice combination on the right side, and the young striker won a penalty for Barça. Luisito went to the spot and completed his hat-trick, the first player since the one and only Pelé to score a hat-trick in Club World Cup and all its formats since 1962.
After that, it was all about keeping possession and avoiding any trouble, and also giving more minutes to Sergi Samper, who played the final ten minutes of the match, which was great to see again. Now, after a good training session, let's get Messi and Neymar recovered and go for another trophy this season. Also, thank you Iniesta for being you.
