YOKOHAMA —€” FC Barcelona: Five titles in 2015.
Barcelona put the golden touch on a golden 2015, as El Blaugrana defeated River Plate 3-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup final to win its fifth title in the year.
River Plate started the match very well, continuing to put pressure on the Barcelona back line.
Marcelo Barovero had a great save on a Lionel Messi shot in the 12th minute, Barça's first true shot at goal. Great pass by Andres Iniesta to set up the Leo shot, but an even greater save by Barovero. Neymar found Dani Alves on a nice cross into the box in the 24th minute, but Dani's shot was easily picked up by Barovero. The River Plate goalkeeper made another save on a Messi free kick in the 33rd minute.
Messi made it 1-0 in the 36th minute, as Neymar was able to head it over to the Argentine inside the box, and Leo was able to stretch out and slot it past a diving Barovero for the opening goal. Golazo de Leo!

Barcelona continued to attack soon after Suarez's goal, but missed out on converting the opportunities into goals.
Suarez picked up his brace in the 68th minute, as Neymar found Luis inside the box, and El Pistolero headed in his fifth Club World Cup goal of the tournament, tying Leo Messi and Cesar Delgado for the record. Five goals in two matches for Luis Suarez.

FT: FC Barcelona 3-0 River Plate
Xoel's Take
I give River Plate and their fans much credit for a hard-fought effort in the first half. The River fans were great all match, but the River players couldn't continue their intense opening physical play for the entire match.
Great match for Gerard Pique, Dani Alves and others. Bravo was a wall, and Neymar showed off his skills against the River defense in the second half.
Barcelona starts and ends with Lionel Messi, and it was fitting he grabbed the opening goal. The Ballon d'Or will go to Leo soon enough, and Messi's goal was just another reminder of how he always showed up in big matches for Barcelona in 2015.
With the goal, Messi equaled Cesar Delgado for the most goals in FIFA Club World Cup history with five goals in the competition (later equaled by Luis Suarez). Messi became the first player ever to score in seven different competitions within the same year. Via Mr. Chip (ESPN Deportes): Messi joined Alberto Spencer to score in three intercontinental cup/Club World Cup finals.
Lionel Messi has won every competition he played for Barça at least three times.
