Real Madrid used to be known as a gentlemanly club. Long before Barcelona preached valors (values), Los Blancos boasted an almost stately image. Señorío. They flew the flag for Spain - and most Spaniards were proud to have it that way. The only pure thing about Madrid these days, however, is the white of its shirts. And the latest debacle in the Copa del Rey is another nail in the coffin for their so-called seignorial image.

Real Madrid have seen their second appeal for Copa del Rey reinstatement rejected by Spain’s Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD). Los Blancos took their claim to a tribunal after they were knocked back by both the RFEF’s Competition Committee and Appeals panel, but their expulsion now looms large, having exhausted all the sporting avenues available to them.
