Barcelona are your 2015 World Champions, defeating River Plate 3-0 on a great Sunday night in Japan with a spectacle by the 'MSN' trio. Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez scored with big contributions from Neymar, and after a tough first half, the Catalan giants eventually dominated a courageous opponent to win their fifth trophy of the calendar year.
FIRST HALF
The classic Club World Cup final: the South American team giving their life against a superior European champion. But River surprised Barça with a high pressing that troubled the Catalans a bit. But the Blaugranes slowly started gaining control of the match, and created chances through a very lively Lionel Messi, who was all over the place and actively participating in the attacking actions.
River couldn't step up their technical game, so they responded physically, with a lot of hard challenges and yellow cards. Barça was also physical and intense, but their talent eventually came through. After a sensational buildup, Dani Alves found Neymar in the box, and the Brazilian passed the ball to Messi, who got away with a little handball and finally found the opening goal with his left foot.
At halftime, a hard-fought, narrow lead.
SECOND HALF
River naturally needed an equalizer, and became a more offensive team that tried to advance their lines. But they left gaps, and it didn't take long for Barça to take advantage. Less than five minutes in, Sergio Busquets stole a ball and ignited a counter-attack with a beautiful through ball to Luis Suárez, who calmly finished to score the second.
After that, River was stunned, and the Blaugranes started to dominate thanks to a sensational stretch from the 'MSN' trio. They combined to create plenty of scoring chances, but goalkeeper Barovero saved most of them. But another goal happened, with a beautiful cross from Neymar finding Suárez in the box, and The Uruguayan headed away from the keeper to get the third.
In search of a consolation goal, River went forward even more, and forced Claudio Bravo to make a few spectacular saves. But they couldn't get through the Chilean, and the game ended with a clean sheet for the World Champions. The best team on the planet just confirmed it with another piece of gold.
