The Spanish Football League have confirmed this Monday the kick off times for Week 21 in La Liga. FC Barcelona's away game at Málaga that weekend will be played on Saturday 23 January at 4.00pm CET, following the the home game against Athletic Bilbao and before the visit of Atlético Madrid to Camp Nou.
While Barça were away in Japan, Atlético Madrid were in Malaga, where just one point would have been enough to move them clear at the top of the table. But in what was not their most inspired performance of the season, and with Gabi sent off in the second half, Diego Simeone’s side went down 1-0 after Charles scored for the home side with just four minutes to go. Barça stay top on goal difference, but now with a game in hand.
The FC Barcelona party arrived at 5.40pm at Barcelona Airport following a 15 hour flight from Tokyo. Due to a fierce headwind, the flight came in later than expected initially. All the party, with the exception of Gerard Piqué and Arda Turan who with permission from the Club began their holidays independently, disembarked at El Prat Airport.
An unforgettable week in Japan for the Club World Cup is over, and Barça have come home with the trophy for the third time this century. There have been amazing scenes of support for the team from the moment they arrived at Yokohama Airport right through to Sunday and the conquest of the title with a 3-0 victory against River Plate.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man they say. That is certainly true of Leo Messi since his very first final in a Barça shirt, the 2006 Spanish Super Cup against Espanyol in which curiously he did not find the net. From that day forwards, however, Messi has played in 28 different finals, and has scored 24 goals in those games, the most recent of which being the Club World Cup final against River Plate in Yokohama. Messi opened the scoring in that game, setting Barça on their way to a 3-0 victory and their third win in the competition. On a personal level, the Barça number ‘10’ is now tied with Andrés Iniesta on 26 as the blaugrana who has won most trophies.
"Barcelona are the hardest team in the world to play against. Barcelona are the best team at the moment in the world. We know that," Ozil told the Times newspaper. "It is a tough match but I don't think our defenders were afraid after the draw. It's a big opportunity for them to prove themselves against the best attack in the world, players like Suarez, Messi, Neymar."
Chile international Claudio Bravo put the icing on the cake as he lifted his sixth title in six months; five of them with Blaugranas and the Copa America with Chile. With all due respect to Victor Valdes, he capped off arguably the greatest season in football history for a goalkeeper. At the age of 32, he has reached the zenith of his development. Speaking to IBTimes UK, Roberto Navajas, Bravo's former coach at Real Sociedad, analyses his pupil's evolution and they key factors in his improvement.
Arda Turan has taken to social media to express his excitement of making his Barcelona debut in the new year. The 28-year-old also reflected on a great year which saw him complete a dream move to the Champions League champions and qualify to Euro 2016 with the Turkish national team.
