Luis Suárez open to future Major League Soccer move: "It's a good option"

David Beckham, Roy Keane, Thierry Henry, Steven Gerrard, David Villa, Kaká. These are just some of the legendary football players who have decided to move to Major League Soccer at some point of their careers, most of them to retire there while earning a lot of money as designated players in the franchises.

As the level of MLS competition and attention continues to grow, many football stars start to consider ending their careers playing in America, which helps the league to become better and more appealing to other stars and football fans.

Barcelona recently went on a tour around the United States and even played a friendly against the most famous team in MLS, LA Galaxy. While there, Blaugrana striker Luis Suárez talked to ESPN Deportes, and he said that going to the American league at the end of his career is definitely an option. He also talked about his present with the Catalan giants, his 'MSN' partners, his future, and more.

Here's a few highlights:

On being rated as one of the world's best: You always try to take the accolades and the things they say, but it's not that you're not humble, or that I consider myself one of the best players in the world. I do my job and I'm in the best team in the world, and I'm doing things that I never imagined - but the rest we'll leave for their opinion.

Playing with Messi and Neymar: I'm privileged to play alongside those two players and with Iniesta, who it was a dream to play with, enjoying being by their side.

Can he improve? I don't know if the ceiling is higher, but I'm benefitting from a preseason and I have gone six years without doing this, becausse it's always one competition after another.

On the treble: What we did last year people will always remember, because it's unique, and this year we have the chance to win the same titles and also make it six titles in a year.

On his future: My dream is to retire at Nacional, but I want to be remembered by Uruguay fans. I also said I would like to return to Ajax, because they gave me everything and I was happy, but I want a team that has helped me, not in any side.

MLS: You never know what might happen. The family was comfortable here. I didn't dislike it, there's no pressure at all. I walked three blocks in San Francisco and the people didn't recognise me, because football is not the country's first sport, and they left me alone. It's a good option.

The Brazilian Pogba? A scouting report on Barcelona target Gerson

For a few months now, 18-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Gerson has been heavily linked with a rich move to Europe. The two teams who have fought the most for his signing are Champions League finalists Barcelona and Juventus, and the Blaugrana are ahead in the race, having acquired priority to sign him once the transfer ban ends in 2016.

When the rumors linking Paul Pogba to Catalonia started to gain a lot of traction, many reported that Gerson could be involved in the deal. Barça still wants Pogba badly, and the Bianconeri were willing to give him away as long as the Brazilian went to Italy. The deal never came through, however, so both Pogba and Gerson are still in their respective clubs.

After failing to convince the French phenom to join, Barça has turned its full attention to the Brazilian pearl. But is he really this good? Let's scout him.

At 18 years old, two things immediately stand out about Gerson: his physical presence and his speed. He might look leaner than what you'd expect for a central midfielder, but he's actually stronger than he looks. A lot stronger. He doesn't fall over easily with every contact from a defender, and he knows how to use his body to shield the ball when running with it.

But the young man is incredibly quick. That's why he currently plays on the wings on Fluminense's current scheme. The Rio de Janeiro giants use a 4-2-3-1 formation, and Gerson usually plays on either side of the three-man line of attacking midfielders behind the main striker. Even though his style of play is built to make him shine on the center of the pitch, Gerson's ability to move quickly without the ball and free himself to attack on the the wings are fundamental to his team's system. He's also a counter-attacking beast, especially with the ball.

Because Brazilian teams now are not really comfortable with high possession and passing numbers, it is difficult to precisely say how good of a passer Gerson is since the sample is so small. However, he does have a very impressive 96% pass accuracy rate, which is always attractive for Barça diehards.

One obvious thing to say is that Gerson is very raw, which is almost always the case with 18-year-olds. Perhaps his biggest weakness is that he zones in and out of games too much. It's hard to find a super consistent performance. You can usually see 20-30 awesome minutes followed by a wild sequence of miscues, bad tackles and nerves. He's a world-class midfielder in those awesome moments, and then he's just a teenager for most of the games.

However, you could attribute his inconsistency to the scheme. As said earlier, Gerson is very good on the wings, but it's on the center of the pitch where his game shines the most. His long passes from a Xavi-esque position are ridiculously accurate, and his ability to dribble and fool defensive midfielders while running with the ball always stand out when he plays in the middle. His long shots are very powerful.

That's where the Pogba comparison becomes so accurate. Both are so good and versatile than coaches mistakenly assume they can just play everywhere, and forget what their true strong points are. Both are pace monsters in the middle of the park, and they don't need to be on the box all the time to be effective, which is exactly what you'd expect from a central midfielder.

Comparing him to Pogba right now is foolish since the French has turned into one of the best players in the world. However, Pogba is 21, and Gerson is 18. The Brazilian is very similar to the Juventus star when he was 18, and their potential is more or less the same because of their physical and technical attributes.

If Barça finally land Gerson, they'll deal with a raw talent that's actually more polished than expected for his age. Remember, not all 18-year-olds are Neymar Jr.'s and Lionel Messi's. If treated correctly, Gerson could become a beast in a position that's so critical to Barça, and that's very exciting.

Barcelona new signing Arda Turan out indefinitely with ankle injury

Bad news (kind of) for Barcelona as the Blaugrana prepares for a week of two friendlies.

New team signing Arda Turan suffered a high ankle sprain on Friday's first training session and immediately left the activity to test the injury and start his rehabilitation process.

The club announced the news today:

Arda Turan twisted his ankle during Friday morning training and the verdict is that he has a second degree sprain in the external ligaments. He will now need to be subjected to more thorough testing which should shed more light on his availability over the next few days.

While it is bad news that a player is injured, since Arda won't play until January, we can calm down. Had this been two weeks before his debut, then it would be a huge concern.

Let's just hope things don't snowball from here.

Agent closes door on Reus rumors: "Marco is staying at Borussia Dortmund"

If there's any Barcelona fan out there who still wants the club to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, you better forget it.

Although the reports linking Reus to the Catalan giants this summer were minimal, they still popped up here and there. As Barça shifted its attention to Paul Pogba, Juventus were thrown in the Reus mix, as the German superstar was heavily linked with a move to Italy for several weeks.

After all, Marco is staying in Dortmund, and even signed a contract extension with Die Schwarzgelben, keeping the attacking midfielder in the club until 2019. And his agent, Volker Struth, rather confirmed Reus' decision to stick around and play three or four more seasons with his childhood club in an interview this week.

"We hear and read every single rumor regarding Marco's future. We can absolutely say that the player is incredibly happy with how things are developing at Dortmund. We appreciate and feel flattered by the interest and offers from all teams, but it's safe to say Marco is staying at Borussia Dortmund."

So there you go. If you still expected a super "BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!" report saying that Reus is joining the Blaugrana, maybe it's time to think about another target.

Barcelona could buy second division spot for Barça B in 2015/16

The 2014-15 season was terrible for Barça B, one of the most powerful young teams in the world. Not only did the Blaugrana branch not give the first team a new star, like the last few years, the lack of good performances resulted in a tough relegation to the Spanish League's third division, Segunda B.

However, that relegation could not happen, and the B team might stay in the second division after all. That's because of the financial struggles of a former Primera team, Elche.

The Alicante side finished 13th in last season's edition of La Liga. But because of a €6.8 million wage debt to its players, Elche suffered what is called "administrative relegation", automatically going to the second division regardless of its position because of financial problems, which is a rule in Spain.

The problems are not over for Elche, though. Administrative relegations also exist for the Segunda, and Elche has until this Friday to pay off those debts. If they don't, the Sporting Administrative Court (TAD, in Spanish) will relegate the club once again, this time to Segunda B, Spain's third division.

And that's where Barcelona could take advantage. There will be a spot available for a team who's in the third division if Los Franjiverdes are indeed relegated again. A club could "buy" their spot in the Segunda if they pay the exact same €6.8 million Elche owes. Out of all current third divisioners, Barcelona is the only one with the financial power to make that investment.

Barça's board of directors is taking the subject under heavy consideration, according to sources. If the opportunity presents itself on Friday, the club is willing to maintain Barça B in the second tier. In doing so, they could solve a lot of problems. Players like Sergi Samper, Sandro Ramírez, Alen Halilovic and Adama Traoré have expressed desire to leave Barça B and compete in a better league than Segunda B.

Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano return early to Barcelona squad

The schedule for Barcelona on Thursday was clear: medicals for Neymar Jr., Dani Alves and Marc-André ter Stegen, then a light training for the three to wrap up the day at the Ciutat Esportiva. But two of the players who were in vacation decided they've had enough of this whole resting thing.

Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, the two Blaugrana players who reached the Copa América final with Argentina a month or so ago, decided to rejoin the squad earlier than scheduled. Both were only expected to return only on Monday, but the Albiceleste internationals want to play on next week's Joan Gamper Trophy, the traditional Camp Nou opener, which will be played next Wednesday against Roma.

While the club hasn't officially confirmed it, it's expected that Messi and Mascherano train normally with the team on all four sessions that will be held on Friday and Saturday. They're likely not traveling to Italy for Sunday's friendly against Fiorentina, though the possibility still exists.

The only member of the squad yet to return to training is Chile captain and Copa América champion Claudio Bravo. He will rejoin the team on Monday, and will not play the Gamper match.

Ivan Rakitic: 'Life is easier with Lionel Messi, he does things no one else can'

Ivan Rakitic is enjoying the time of his life as a footballer. He was already a successful player at Sevilla, and he was quickly becoming a star. But after moving to Barcelona last year, the Croatian midfielder has solidified his position as one of the best players in his position in all of football.

His abilities, combined with a ridiculous work ethic and dedication turned Rakitic into an invaluable member of the Blaugrana squad. Alongside the 'MSN' trio, he is probably one of the untouchable members of this current team. Things definitely are rougher without him on the pitch.

Even though his personal season was amazing, Rakitic makes it clear that his great performances have a lot to do with having the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, right in front of him. Ivan is more than happy to run all day long for the Argentine and the other two world-class attackers beside him, Neymar and Luis Suárez. It is not easy to sacrifice and work that much to give the trio all the spotlight, but Rakitic is willing to let his ego to the side if it benefits the whole team.

Rakitic talked about those topics in an interview with Marca. Here's a few highlights:

Q. Does the idea of the sextuple make your head spin?
A. No, but it does fill me with awe because only a few of my teammates have won one. It had never been done before then. We don't feel under pressure, but we know it's going to be very difficult.

Q. Would winning the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla leave a sour taste in your mouth?
A. I can't say that because there's a trophy up for grabs, I know where I am and I'm going to fight the utmost for Barcelona. I would have liked Sevilla to win it if we weren't in it, though.

Q. Where does the key to Sevilla's success lie?
A. It's all about how well run the club is and the amazing work done by [sporting director] Monchi. Luck also has a role, but Monchi deserves the credit for bringing in the right players.

Q. Is life easier when you have Messi?
A. Honestly, yes it is. Every team would love to have Leo, but luckily we've got him and we're going to look after him. He does things that no one else can. And, if we can make him even better, then that's great.

Q. Do you enjoy having Messi, Suárez and Neymar ahead of you?
A. Yes, I do, although a lot of people say that it's easy to play with them and that's rubbish. They are on another level and we play for them because they have earned it, but that doesn't mean it's easy. You have to get used to doing work on their behalf, and if I have to run 5,000 kilometres so that one of them can have his moment, that's fine by me.

Chelsea 2-2 Barcelona: Highlights

Barcelona and Chelsea put on a show on Tuesday night to finish their tour around the United States. It was one of the most exciting and intense preseason friendlies you'll ever see, and both teams battled hard for a win. The Blues eventually got the better of the Blaugrana on penalty kicks, but Barça played a great overall match, and we saw some beautiful goals.

This 90-second video doesn't really do the game justice, but it's enough to show you how good of a match it was. Enjoy.

Xavi Hernández impressed with new club: "I feel great to be here, it's like a family"

After two decades of services to Barcelona, Xavi Hernández moved on to a new chapter, going to Qatar to play for Al Sadd. And the eternal Blaugrana captain is very impressed with his new home.

Xavi did an interview with the club's website this week. He talked about his past, Pep Guardiola, the Spanish national team and many more topics. But what he went in depth about was how great the club he's joining feels. Xavi already feels at home, says the team is hungry for titles and hopes to have success in a new league.

Here's some highlights:

"I feel really great to be here. The team here is like a family, a group constantly trying for success and this makes me fit in faster and aim for the same goal as everyone else - winning trophies. I know Al-Sadd are a team with a history of trophies, both domestic and continental.

"The facilities are top-notch. The coaching staff, led by head coach Amouta, are doing a great job in getting us ready for the start of the new season and they are fully supported by the management.

"There is a professional way of dealing with things; I feel Al-Sadd matches European teams in terms of professionalism.

"Recently, I have watched some of their games and have come to know the players more - especially Khalfan, Talal al Baloushi and the keeper Saad al-Sheeb.

"Also, I know the foreign players - Muriqui the Brazilian; Nadir Belhadj, who played in Europe earlier and the Korean defender Lee Jung Soo who has represented his country at the World Cup.

"I was quite impressed by the level of Hassan al Haydos who is one of the finest, with his ability to move fast, think unlike the others and help the team all over the pitch.

"In addition to him, there are many others like the captain Talal, whose one-touch play is at a terrific pace and then Ali Asad, who is great at penetrating defences; all of them will be of great aid to the Al-Sadd cause next season."

Lionel Messi is already training for the new season... with his son!

Neymar Jr. and Dani Alves to join Barcelona squad on Thursday

As the new season gets closer to begin for Barcelona, the squad is finallly shaping up.

The 24-man group and the coaching staff have already left the United States after a three-game tour, and when they return home for training, two happy Brazilian faces will join them. After enjoying an extended period of vacation because of their participation in the Copa América, Neymar Jr. and Dani Alves return to the team on Thursday.

All players from the U.S. tour will get Thursday off, so Neymar and Alves will train alone that day, which will be basically spent on medical tests. Marc-André ter Stegen, the only member of the North America tour who wasn't tested by team doctors, will join the two Brazilians.

The whole squad will join Dani and Ney on Friday, and the team has three training sessions together before the final preseason trip. Barça will go to Florence, Italy, to play Fiorentina on the final friendly match of the International Champions Cup.

There are now only three players left to join the squad. Copa América finalists Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano and Claudio Bravo return on Monday, and they'll get ready to play the Joan Gamper trophy before the real season starts.

Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour is practically begging for a Barcelona transfer

A few days ago, news broke that Barcelona were allegedly in talks with Monaco in France to sign Tunisian defender Aymen Abdennour. The 25-year-old left-sided center-back was rumored to sign with the Blaugrana last season, but the Catalan giants signed Jérémy Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen instead.

With the imminent departure of Adriano Correia to Italy, a spot on the squad for a defender opens up, and Abdennour sees this an opportunity to join. And he's making it clear that he wants a move to Catalonia, and he's even talking to Monaco president about leaving.

"The president promised me I could go if an opportunity like this came up and I have full confidence in my directors that it will be like this.

"I've already said I would love to go to Barcelona, it's normal, but I am a player at Monaco. I've returned to training and I feel good. I have to apply myself to work and concentrate on my team. The rest will be decided by the president.

"I'm taking it all calmly. They are complicated situations, but I'm taking it as calmly as I can. I have a contract up to 2019.

"To live the experience of playing in another championship in a different country is my desire, but I insist, I am in the hands of the president."

Source: L'Equipe Radio via Sport

Abdennour's situation is very similar to what Mathieu experienced last year. The former Valencia player repeatedly asked for a Barça move, and he took to the press and involved the president in the deal to force a way out. In the end, the transfer was inevitable.

Though he's not really necessary this year, Abdennour might be the next CB to land in Barcelona after begging for it.

Luis Enrique on Chelsea draw: "We go back home happy"

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is definitely aware of the concept of #Preseason.

The club tour around the United States ended with only one win after three games, but the results don't really matter to Lucho. What's important to him at this point is how his team is evolving and the level of performances, and with that he's happy. Especially with what he witnessed against Chelsea, which was easily the best game the Blaugrana played in the tour.

Talking specifically about the match against the Blues, Enrique was very complimentary of his team and their performance, and the ability to come back from a deficit in the second half while dominating the opposition and patiently searching for the goals.

Here's a few quotes from Lucho's conference:

"Against Chelsea we showed we could come back after going behind and I liked the team."

Verdict on the tour:

"We have been able to get playing time against top quality opposition, we have had the chance to feel the support of lots of fans, who have been the majority in the grounds and we have been able to promote the Club. We go back home happy."

The game against Chelsea:

"It has been a more physically demanding game than usual after 10 days on tour. I like the team. We overcame an early goal against and even there were a little slack in some areas of the game, we turned it around."

"The only bad news is the injury to Douglas. Any kind of injury is always sad news."

Sergi Roberto’s position:

"Physically he is very strong, he is fit as you like, gets up and down and has quality. It’s another option. You have to remember that a full back at Barça is almost like a midfielder."

Goals from set pieces:

"Before this game we had only conceded three corners and conceded two goals. Last season we improved a lot in that aspect of the game, but this one it will a sore point."

"We are not a tall team. Even so, I prefer to have the kind of players who control the game than tall players for the ball in the air but don’t control the game."

Andrés Iniesta on United States Tour: "We have to be positive"

Barcelona's tour around the United States is over. It was a good preparation, and the three games were against competitive teams. The last one, a draw against Chelsea, was the best performance by the Blaugrana in the preseason so far, and it's an exciting sign of what's to come for Barça, especially once the South American players join the squad.

Andrés Iniesta, the Blaugrana skipper, spoke after the Chelsea game to sum up his thoughts on the U.S. portion of the preseason, and while the results might not have been the best, the midfielder seemed confident that the tour was a positive things for the group as they prepare for a busy August.

Here's a few quotes from his post-match interview:

"There are positive things and others to improve, like at the start of every season. We are still trying to prepare ourselves as best we can through training sessions and matches and, beyond results, I think we have to be positive. Once home, we will keep preparing for what’s coming, which is important.

"The worst news was the injury to Douglas, it’s a difficult time because he was playing and so we hope he can come back quickly and well.

"We have been training 20 days, and everything has to be speeded up because competitive matches are coming so that’s what we are doing.

"Everything is preparation, but when you are in the competitive stage, you want to come into in the best shape possible with everyone fit."

Barcelona right-back Douglas Pereira out eight weeks with hamstring injury

Douglas Pereira wanted to turn the corner in Barcelona's preseason. But now he's out.

After a terrible start in the friendly against Chelsea on Tuesday night, the Brazilian right-back was suddenly subbed off by coach Luis Enrique. One might have thought the coach was fed up with such a bad game by Douglas, but in the end he was forced to; during a simple play in which he attempted a pass back to goalkeeper Ter Stegen after a run on the right side, he started limping heavily, then fell to the ground showing that his night was done.

The doctors were quick to diagnose a full hamstring tear in his right leg, thanks to the always amazing medical facilities you can find at any NFL stadium, which is also the case at FedEx Field, the site of the friendly. After the diagnose, a date was set on his return:

The Club's medical services have announced that Douglas has suffered a hamstring injury in his right leg. He is expected to be out for around eight weeks

Source: FCBarcelona.com

Even though Douglas is not a world-class full-back, and his few appearances at Barça have been far from impressing, his presence on the squad is now important. The loan of Martín Montoya to Inter Milan instantly turned Douglas into the immediate backup to starting right-back Dani Alves.

Luckily, Luis Enrique tested an interesting alternative in the preseason: midfielder Sergi Roberto played as a full-back for the better part of 120 minutes combined against Manchester United and Chelsea, and his performances were encouraging. His versatility can now prove to be fundamental as Barça will have only one full-back until October.

Friendly: Chelsea 2-2 Barcelona: Match Review

A review of Barcelona's final US tour game, lost on penalty kicks against Chelsea

A hot summer night in Washington saw one of most intense friendlies in recent memory, as Barcelona and Chelsea battled for 90 minutes in an exciting encounter. Goals from Luis Suárez, Sandro Ramírez, Eden Hazard and Gary Cahill's bloody nose were the higlights of an exciting night, that ended with a Chelsea victory on penalty kicks to end the United States tour for both sides.

Chelsea Barcelona
Possession 31 69
Total Shots 9 18
Shots on Target 4 6
Corners 2 7
Fouls 13 14
Offsides 2 0
Yellow Cards 0 2
Red Cards 0 0

FIRST HALF

The first fifteen minutes were a complete nightmare. The passing was as far from sharp as it could be, even for a preseason game, and no significant players were created for simple lack of accuracy in passing. And the right side of the defense was very poor. Douglas Pereira was so bad that he got injured and had to be subbed off.

And it was during that terrible start that Chelsea enjoyed its best moment in the half. Eden Hazard dribbled his way into a tremendous goal, and even though the defense didn’t properly close him down, you got to give credit when credit is due. Hazard made a sensational play, and there are very few defenders on the planet that can take the ball off him when he starts running like that. A few minutes after that goal, Chelsea created a few more dangerous chances, including a beautiful free kick taken by Oscar, that hit the crossbar as Ter Stegen just watched.

But then the Blues were content to drop back and wait for counter-attacking opportunities. Barça’s defense improved with Sergi Roberto at right-back and a more settled Gumbau protecting the backline, so those counters slowly disappeared, to the point where the Blaugrana started to dominate. Luis Suárez (who had a great half), Sandro and Munir had very good chances themselves, only to find a spectacular Courtois, who made fantastic save after another. Rakitic was amazing on offense, and he got perhaps the best chance of the first half, but couldn’t find the goal from the six-yard box.

The first half ended with a dominant Barça in the final 20 minutes, but the early defensive miscues and the ridiculous saves by Courtois were responsible for the 1-0 scoreline for Chelsea.

SECOND HALF

The first fifteen minutes of the second half were a complete opposite from the beginning of the game. Still with its first half lineup, Barça were a lot more confident, and quickly began to gain superiority in the midfield and create opportunities. Five minutes in, they got the equalizer. An errant Mathieu pass took a lucky bounce right into the feet of Luis Suárez, who showed so much composure and chipped in over the entire defense, and the ball crossed the goal line just before Zouma could clear it out.

And then, we saw a beauty. Rafinha found Sandro on the left side. The Barça B star cut to the middle and curled a spectacular right-footed shot to the Chelsea net to put the Blaugrana ahead on the score.

Following the go-ahead score, the second half team continued to dominate, conceding very few counter-attacks to the Blues, who also changed the lineup heavily. This new group had a hard time creating chances, though, and the intensity of the game went down rapidly.

Everything pointed to a great Blaugrana win, but an individual error changed the game. Third goalkeeper Jordi Masip went completely wild trying to clear a corner-kick, but he went the wrong way, and trying to clear the ball, he punched Gary Cahill's face. The Chelsea center-back still maintained his composure and headed home the equalizer. A bloody Cahill barely celebrated, and quickly was subbed out in the weirdest goal of the International Champions Cup.

Because of the competition's format, the match couldn't end in a draw, and the teams went to the spot to decide the winner on penalty kicks. Alen Halilovic tried to chip in over Courtois but hit the crossbar. The goalkeeper also made saves, and Loic Remy buried home the winner for Chelsea.

The United States tour is now over, but Barça has one last International Champions Cup match. It's in Italy against Fiorentina, on Sunday.

Chelsea 2-2 Barcelona, Post-Match Reaction: 3 Things We Learned

Barcelona bounced back from the loss against Manchester United to end the United States tour in exciting fashion, drawing with Chelsea 2-2 in Washington with a great game from most of the 21 players Luis Enrique used in the match. The loss eventually came on penalty kicks, but the performance was comforting, especially after Saturday's defeat to the Red Devils.

It did not look like a preseason game. At all. Both teams were highly intense, fighting for balls and pressing high on defense. Eden Hazard, who does not know what a friendly means, did one of his trademark runs where he dribbles through the defenders and creates a magical goal. But after that, Barça started to dominate the actions and impose its usual style.

That dominance led to a comeback. Luis Suárez and Sandro Ramírez scored beautiful goals to put the Blaugrana in front, and the Catalans were able to retain possession and survive Chelsea's late push even with a totally new team. Until Jordi Masip screwed things up, including Gary Cahill's face, and an ill-fated attempt to clear a corner kick by Barça's third keeper led to the equalizer.

The only bad news from a good night: Douglas Pereira left the game only 15 minutes in with a torn hamstring, and the only backup to Dani Alves until January is out at least until October. Damn.

3 Things

1. The second kit is even awesomer on the field. I’ve been on the Second Kit Bandwagon since the beginning. The idea of using the Senyera colors only on the back was perfect, and the kit looks modern and classic at the same time. The blue shorts are a nice contrast to the jersey, and the kit fits the players perfectly. I became a fan of the home kit after I saw it on the field. The away kit was already fantastic as a concept, but it’s actually better with, you know, people wearing them.

2. Ter Stegen is going Full Neuer, and it’s amazing. It’s incredible how the German keeper seems to become better with every performance. We all know about his reflexes and his abilities below the posts, but the US tour, and especially the Chelsea game, showed another step on Stegen’s evolution: the talent of working as a sweeper-keeper. His fellow countryman Manuel Neuer became famous for doing it, but Ter Stegen can also make it his own trademark. His ability to play with the ball on his feet is off the charts, and if he can sweep as well as he saves, then he’s definitely entering the group of best goalkeepers in football.

3. Trying Busquets higher is fine, but Samper has got to play. I like Gumbau, and he played much better after a shaky start, but he’s nowhere near as talented as Sergi Samper. Yes, Samper did get to play, but it wasn’t in the most competitive portion of the match. He’s so good for his age, and he needs to be tested as much as possible. Luis Enrique loves trying new things with Busquets from time to time, and Sergio was solid playing higher up and closer to the attackers. It’s preseason, so it’s okay to do those experiments. But the spot that opens up behind Busquets and Rakitic has to belong to Samper. But I get that Lucho tried to lift Gumbau’s spirits after two mediocre appearances. However, Samper might have to step up until Turan plays in January. If he doesn’t get any real competitive playing time, will he have enough confidence?

Barcelona vs Chelsea, Preseason friendly: Official Lineups, Live Game Thread

A live thread for the final game on the United States tour for Barcelona and Chelsea

The final game of the U.S. tour is less than 60 minutes away! Stadium's looking nice...

And the players have arrived:

Lineups:

******

Barcelona (4-3-3): Marc-André ter Stegen | Douglas Pereira, Marc Bartra, Jérémy Mathieu, Adriano Correia | Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Gerard Gumbau | Munir El-Haddadi, Luis Suárez, Sandro Ramírez

Substitutes: Masip, J. Suárez, Piqué, Vermaelen, Alba, Samper, Sergi Roberto, Iniesta, Halilovic, Pedro, Rafinha

******

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Thibaut Courtois | Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma, César Azpilicueta | Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fàbregas | Kenedy, Oscar, Eden Hazard | Diego Costa

Substitutes: TBA

****
Two strong lineups from both teams, especially the side coached by José Mourinho. It's interesting how the opponents face the European Champions with a serious attitude for the game. Luis Enrique counters with basically what would be his 2nd team, except from Suárez, Rakitic and Busquets. Lucho only wants to get people fit. Mourinho wants to win, even though preseason is fake to him.

Should be fun. It's a rivalry!

Cesc Fàbregas: 'I haven't seen a trio like MSN since I was born'

As Cesc Fàbregas prepares to take on his former club for the first time since leaving Barcelona to join Chelsea, the midfielder had some pretty high praise for the team, and especially the 'MSN' trio.

In an interview prior to the friendly between the Blaugrana and the Blues, Fàbregas was very complimentary of his former teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr., and with the addition of Luis Suárez, Cesc feels like they have become and unstoppable force together since last season.

Fàbregas, who won a lot with Pep Guardiola when he returned to Catalonia from Arsenal, feels lucky not to face the whole trio, since Messi and Neymar have yet to join the squad who's touring the United States. However, Cesc still thinks this team is strong enough to beat Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Here's a few quotes from his talks with the media:

"I think they are the best team in the world, especially when the front three are on form. I don't remember a front three like Messi, Suarez and Neymar, as powerful and talented as those three, since I was born. Obviously they are a threat to everybody in the competition again this season.

"We won't be playing against Messi and Neymar in this game, so we are a bit lucky because of that! But if we want to win Champions Leagues, we have to compete against the best. We will have to do well.

"We have players like Eden Hazard, Oscar, Diego Costa and Willian who play in the attacking positions and for sure we have a great team. We showed that last season by winning the League and the Capital One Cup and we want to show it again. Barcelona have the best strikeforce in the world and against that you have to play as a unit, you have to play very well. But there are no doubts that we can compete against anyone.

"I spent beautiful years there, some of the most beautiful moments of my career and my life personally as well. It will be great to play against them again."

FC Barcelona Looking for Pedro Replacememt, Celta Vigo's Nolito Identified as Option

Apparently, Barcelona are looking for a replacement for Pedro.

While FC Barcelona seem unwilling to sell homegrown winger Pedro Rodriguez, at least not for about a week or so, until the UEFA Super Cup game between Barcelona and Sevilla, but reports in Spain are saying the Catalans are already looking for a replacement. Mundo Deportivo has identified Celta Vigo winger Nolito as the primary option to replace Pedro, again overlooking some exciting winger options already on the team, most notably Adama Traore.

Nolito is a known commodity in Barcelona, playing three seasons with the Barcelona B team, all three under then B team coach and current Barça coach Luis Enrique. Nolito also made his first team Barcelona debut during that time, playing two games for the then Pep Guardiola led Barcelona. Nolito then joined Benfica before he was reunited with Lucho at Celta Vigo in 2013.

Nolito's career took off after he joined Celta, leading Celta to an impressive 8th place finish this past season. He capped off the impressive season, in which he scored 13 goals and added 14 assists, by winning his Spain senior team debut.

Rumors linking Nolito to the Catalan club aren't new, as they were first reported prior to last season, but the deal was tabled at the time. Nolito still has has four years left on his current deal with the Galician club with a buy-out clause reportedly standing at €18 million. If the deal for Nolito materializes, the 28-year-old Spanish international will like Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal be subject to the transfer ban handed to Barcelona last year and will be unable to play until January 2016.
