Some quick talking points from Barça's season closer.
Barcelona may be the best team in the league but Madrid have been the most consistent.
Barcelona have had the better of Madrid in the Clásicos this year, drawing one and winning the other, but it is elsewhere that they have lost this league. The game against Eibar was emblematic of the lack of concentration that has plagued Barça throughout the season. Madrid haven’t suffered like this and have therefore won the title.
Messi is as important as ever, if not more.
Luis Suárez and Neymar are very good, human footballers. Able to reach the highest level of the game but still have the ability to make a mistake at a crucial point. Lionel Messi does not have this problem. Time and time again this season he has clawed them out of a hole and singlehandedly won his team the points, he did so again against Eibar.
Barça must address the right side of the pitch.
On the lineup, Messi is labelled as a RW but this is not the case. He plays so centrally that he is more a traditional ten than an inverted winger. This leaves Barça’s right flank open and allows the opponent space to attack. Both of Eibar’s goals came from this side and while Rakitić tries to get across, it is not enough and Barça must address this issue over the summer.
