Barcelona v Alaves: Three things to look out for in the Copa del Rey Final

Luis Enrique will be hoping for a win in his final game in charge

Yet another landmark for Messi

It’s been yet another season of Lionel Messi landmarks and the Argentine will hit another on Saturday as he will make his 700th senior appearance (that will be 583 for Barcelona and 117 for Argentina) when he faces Alaves. Incredibly it will be Messi’s 25th final for the Blaugrana and he will be aiming for his fifth Copa del Rey. In 24 finals, Messi has gone on to lift the trophy 19 times, tasting defeat on just five occasions.

Goodbye to the Calderon & thanks for the memories

The Vicente Calderon will host its final competitive game on Saturday and Barcelona will wave goodbye with fond memories of the place. The Blaugrana have already won three Copa del Rey finals at the home of Atletico Madrid and another one would see them move past Real Madrid and become the team to have won the most finals at the Calderon. Messi, too, seems to love playing there, he has 13 goals at the Calderon, the only grounds where he has scored more are the Bernabeu and, of course, Camp Nou.

Chance for Alcacer to shine

Luis Suarez is suspended for Saturday’s game which should give Paco Alcacer the chance to shine. The forward has spoken to Catalunya Radio this week and insisted he does not regret his decision to move to Barcelona and wants to stay .

“Yes. The decision is very clear,” he said. "I do not regret having made the decision [to join Barcelona]. I do not care about the good or bad things that have been said about me but about what my team-mates, the boss and the board say.

“People judge us by our game but what is important is the opinion of those who see me working day by day. When you arrive to a new team you need a time to adapt to the style and the new teammates. When you gain confidence, you are more comfortable and things go better. Luis Enrique always supported me even in the first games when I struggled to score."

Alcacer’s last goals came in the 7-1 romp over Osasuna but he has the chance to sign off a difficult first season in style if he can get on the scoresheet against Alaves.
