Future stars?

Spain are through to the final of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship after defeating Germany on penalties. The Spanish side, which features six FC Barcelona academy players, will play England to determine the champion.

One of those is Abel Ruiz, the team’s captain and leading scorer. He plays for Juvenil A but has made an appearance for Barcelona B already. He played in the 2016 edition of the tournament, where he bagged 4 goals. He has scored another 4 so far in this edition. Thus he tied the record for most goals in the U17 Euros with France's Amine Gouiri at 8 each.

Unfortunately, Ruiz missed a penalty during regular time of the semifinal, however, he showed great composure in scoring during the shootout.

Another Barcelona player, defender Mateu Morey, also scored during the shootout, which Spain won 4-2.

Watch highlights here.

In all, five Barcelona players took the field for Spain: Ruiz, Morey, defender Juan Miranda, as well as midfielders Sergio Gomez and Alejandro Orellana. Eric Garcia, another defender, was on the bench.

Gomez has scored 3 goals this tournament, with Morey scoring 2. In all, La Masia players have scored 9 of Spain’s 10 goals in the tournament.

The final takes place on Friday.
