Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez has admitted he would love to play for Barcelona although he was quick to admit that he is “completely focused on Ajax” currently.
The centre-back was reportedly close to a move to Camp Nou last summer before opting for Ajax where he has adapted so seamlessly he won the club’s Player of the Year award in his first season.
Speculation continues to swirl that Barcelona will make a move for Sanchez this summer and he looks as though he may find it difficult to turn the Blaugrana down.
"Obviously I would like to play for Barcelona,” he told Radio Barcelona.
“It is a huge compliment [to be linked with them]. Who doesn’t want to play for a club as big as Barca? Everyone wants to be part of a team like that, they’re one of the world’s elite.
“I want to be clear that right now I am completely focused on Ajax.”
Jeremy Mathieu will leave this summer, and possibly even Javier Mascherano too, meaning Barcelona could well do with a centre-back and Sanchez looks some prospect.
Ajax may have lost the Europa League final to Manchester United but Sanchez, still just 20 remember, put in an incredibly impressive performance that may not have gone unnoticed at Camp Nou.
