Brazil ended the World Cup in the worst way possible - another demoralizing loss, another terrible performance
It was painful to watch. Brazil ended its World Cup run in the worst way possible. Another terrible loss, and another terrible performance. A 3-0 defeat to a Netherlands team that wasn't interested in the match at all. But Brazil's performance was so disgusting that gave the Dutch no choice but to steamroll past the hosts to finish third.
Sure, Netherlands first two goals happened on referee mistakes. The first goal penalty wasn't a penalty, as Thiago Silva fouled Arjen Robben outside of the penalty box. Silva should've been sent off. He wasn't, so the penalty didn't feel as a terrible error. Anyway, Robin van Persie converted the kick to make it 1-0 in only three minutes.
From that moment on, the Dutch controlled the match, and although Brazil created some chances, the Oranje weren't seriously threatened. On the 16th minute, Blind scored the second goal, which showed how bad Brazil's defense is.
In the second half, Brazil's sole purpose was to foul. A lot. And a lot more. Hard challenges, tackles and bookings depressingly marked the Seleção's last showing at the World Cup. Ultimately, Wijnaldum would score the third, and the worse just got even more terrible.
The former representatives of the Joga Bonito now leave the tournament being outscored 10-1 in the last two games, finishing an undeserving fourth. It's the first time since 2002 that Brazil finishes in the Top Four. It just doesn't feel that way. Something has to change, or humiliating losses like this will be usual from now on.
