Live thread for the first day of Semi-Final competition
The time has come. It's World Cup Semi-Final time. Four teams remain, and the whole world will have their eyes set on Brazil's biggest stages to watch which two countries will be in the Final at Maracanã Stadium on Sunday.
Brazil, Germany, Argentina and Netherlands are the Final Four. Between them, ten of nineteen World Cup titles. The Dutch will try to win their first tournament ever, but they have reached other Finals before, including in 2010 against Spain, so they also have experience in the world's biggest sport stage.
It could have been a great day for Barça fans, but Neymar won't play against Germany due to a back injury that took him out of the World Cup. Doesn't matter. For any football fan of any team, Tuesday and Wednesday matches are must-see.
Brazil vs Germany, Kickoff: 10pm CET
After losing Neymar and team captain Thiago Silva, Brazil's chances dropped dramatically after beating Colombia in the quarter-finals. The team is still very good, but with their biggest leaders out of the match, it would be a shock if the hosts can beat a really strong Germany side. The Mineirão Stadium will root for their team, along with 200 million people across the country.
Germany are the favorites. They would be even if Neymar and Silva played, simply because they are the better team. Joachim Löw's men are unbeaten so far, winning four of five matches and dominating most of them. Miroslav Klose could become the best World Cup goalscorer ever if he scores his sixteenth goal tonight. He can surpass Ronaldo, who will happen to commentate the match for Brazil's biggest TV channel, Globo. Fun fact.
Can Brazil pull of the upset and reach their eighth Final? Can they overcome all adversity and beat the best team in the world? Will Germany control the emotions and go to Maracanã?
