Highlights: FC Barcelona 1-0 Recreativo de Huelva

A chance to relive the first game of preseason, as Barcelona defeated Recreativo de Huelva courtesy of a goal from Joan Angel Roman

It wasn't spectacular, it wasn't always pretty, but it was a win; FC Barcelona were far from their best on Saturday evening in Huelva, but it was enough to secure a 1-0 win against Segunda Division Recreativo at the Nuevo Colombino. Entering the match without a whole host of star players, Luis Enrique was forced to call upon a squad largely composed of B team players, and in the early stages, that was brutally evident in south-west Spain. The passing wasn't as crisp, the movement wasn't as incisive and as a result, the possession was largely sterile.

An impressive display from new signing, Alen Halilovic ensured that there were some positives to take from an otherwise tepid first-half display, but by and large, Barcelona weren't very impressive at all. However, full-scale changes at the interval from Lucho inspired the Blaugrana to bigger and better things in the second period; Ibrahim Afellay reminded us all of his undoubted quality with what could have been a "Man of the Match" display from midfield. Gerard Deulofeu was bright, and was at the heart of virtually everything the team created, while Joan Angel Roman obviously grabbed the all-important winner.

It was richly deserved, and should have been the start of a comfortable win, but alas, it never quite came together for Barcelona -- hence the eventual 1-0 scoreline. As a starting point, this was good; there are improvements to be made, but there wasn't much wrong either. As far as first games go, this could have been a lot worse.
