Jérémy Mathieu is officially a new FC Barcelona player. After passing his medical and physical exams at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper this Thursday, the Frenchman went to the Camp Nou to sign his four-year contract.

The new Barça player, who will wear the number 24, explained that joining the team is an important step in his career. "I think I’m currently playing the best football of my career. I am very proud, I have worked very hard to come here," he explained. He added: "I’m a versatile player, but I feel more comfortable as a center back, I’ve come here to play as a center back."

He was joined in the medical centre by a familiar face in Jordi Alba, who also took the tests along with seven other internationals. Mathieu and Alba played together for three seasons at Valencia, so the latter was the ideal man to show the new signing around the training facilities at Sant Joan Despí.
