Since the La Liga fixture list was announced today, we have produced a schedule for Barcelona's upcoming 2014-2015 campaign
FC Barcelona today discovered the schedule for their 2014-2015 La Liga campaign, with the headline being that Barça kick-off their quest to reclaim the La Liga title at home to Elche CF. Given that Elche narrowly avoided relegation by a solitary point last season, Luis Enrique will surely be pleased that his side has been handed such a comfortable start. At the other end of the spectrum, Barcelona are also scheduled to finish the season at home, with a straightforward encounter against newly promoted Deportivo La Coruna.
Without the Supercopa de España to contend with, Barcelona’s early schedule looks a little less daunting than it did last year, but the Blaugrana will still have to contend with the suspension of Luis Suarez and the injury to Neymar, meaning that early away trips to El Madrigal, the Ciutat de Valencia and Vallecas will be unwelcome, as they will face Villarreal, Levante and Rayo Vallecano respectively in Jornada 2, 4 and 7.
Meanwhile, following a blockbuster summer of transfers, the first, hotly-anticipated Clasico of the season will be contested in Jornada 9 at the Santiago Bernabeu (a day after Suarez’ suspension lapses), with the return scheduled for Jornada 28 at the Camp Nou. Meanwhile, the Blaugrana will clash with reigning champions Atletico Madrid in Jornadas 18 in January and 37 in May at the Vicente Calderon, suggesting another high-stakes encounter with Atleti may await as the season draws to a close.
Listed below is Barcelona’s full schedule for the 2014-2015 season, including all friendly matches and every stage of the UEFA Champions League. As of yet, the Copa del Rey has not been scheduled, and therefore only the final (provisionally pencilled in for the 30th May) has been included in the below. All La Liga dates are listed as a Sunday or Wednesday, although exact kick-off times and dates will be confirmed nearer the time of the fixture, while all UEFA Champions League dates are listed as a Tuesday (with the exception of the final). There are two possible dates for each leg of the Round of 16, which will of course be decided when the draw for the knock-out stages is made in December.
All in all, while the start of the season may appear difficult, the timing of the two Clasicos isn’t all bad, although Barça may have concerns surrounding their La Liga fixtures around the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League.
