I’m absolutely positive that not even in ter Stegen’s wildest dreams did he expect that this would’ve been the quietest of his Barcelona career – even easier than against Segunda División B side Elche. He didn’t need to make a single save - against a team of Bayern’s stature - though you could make a case that when he collected the ball after Thiago’s deflected shot he actually did make one. His passing wasn’t quite on a level as high as it usually is, but he still managed to create something with his distribution, with his early long ball being the catalyst for Suarez’s one-on-one chance. |

Alves was a monster in this game - after Messi the best player on the pitch in my opinion – and proved to be the catalyst that Barcelona needed to score their opening goal of the game. Alves was a "pest" on the right side that Bayern, and especially Juan Bernat, struggled to control, let it be on offense or on defense. Alves led Barcelona in tackles, clearances AND interceptions, and picked up the assist on Messi’s first goal after a lovely steal on Bernat. He made a couple of mistakes, mostly in attack, but those mistakes were small compared to his contributions, though his yellow card foul just after the break caused many hearts to skip a beat. Alves also had a very good chance to score himself, but his attempt was excellently saved. |

The shakier of the two center-backs in the Barcelona back-line was Pique because he made a few too many mistakes for my liking. On quite a few occasions he struggled to contain Robert Lewandowski as Pique often allowed too much space to the Pole. Pique even picked up a yellow card for a foul on the striker. It wasn’t all bad though as Pique still managed to make a few good plays to help his team win just their second game ever against Bayern. |

If you would want to teach a young, upcoming footballer how to defend you should show him a video of Mascherano from this game. Positionally he was almost perfect – he did stray out a couple of times – and was a force in the air game. Bayern were clearly trying to exploit El Jefecito’s lack of height, but Mascherano compensated for that with excellent positioning, resulting in him winning more air duels than anybody else on the pitch. Mascherano was subbed off in the 88th minute due to a slight thigh discomfort. |

Out of all Barcelona defenders Alba was the quietest. Defensively he was alert throughout the game and he mostly did well to cover Thomas Muller when the German ventured wide, but Alba can be partially blamed for the great chance that Lewandowski missed early in the game. In attack he wasn’t quite as active as he usually is, though on occasion he did go on a long run, like in the 26th minute when his low cross caused problems in Bayern’s area. |

Busquets was key in limiting Bayern to as few chances as possible and his effort, combined with the back four’s, ensured the German team didn’t manage a single shot on target. As it became clear of Bayern’s earlier tactics, Busquets pushed forward in the hope of opening space, however this sometimes meant he was caught too far upfield and out of position. His passing was also slightly lower then usual at 81% but this can be expected against a side eager to press such as Bayern. |
Andres Iniesta |

Iniesta was the controlling force in the centre of the field and looked to get the ball down and play the Barça way whenever possible. He popped up everywhere as he looked to get as much time on the ball as possible. His second half was a little more quiet as Bayern reverted to a more compact formation, limiting Iniesta’s space but it was still job well done by the time he left the field in the 86th minute. |

A very good performance from the Croatian that proved he is not out of place in the big games. He was constantly creating chances thanks to his offensively minded outlook and this troubled Bayern’s man marking approach. It was Rakitic who played the ball through for Messi’s second and he also put in a good defensive shift with three interceptions. |
Luis Suarez |

Tireless and kept Bayern's back-line occupied throughout. Suarez's finishing was off all night, especially with the one-on-one he had early on. Yet he created space for others and was involved in pretty much all the attacks with his intelligent passing and wonderful touches. Suarez should be pleased with his performance. |

Magic Messi. The superlatives have well and truly run out. This performance highlighted why he is not only the best player in the world, but also in history. He ran the show throughout, with the first goal being reminiscent of the goal he scored against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in 2011 and the second absolutely out of this world. Genius. It was his inch-perfect assist to Neymar in the final seconds that has in all probability ended the tie as a contest. |

The Barcelona number 11 came of age in his most important match in the Blaugrana shirt so far. He was a nightmare to defend against and was always a threat even though not everything he tried came off. Neymar had a penalty appeal turned down and was booked for a rash tackle. Yet he scored a potentially vital goal in the dying seconds with perfect finishing. |

A brief cameo and what might have been his final ever UEFA Champions League appearance at the Camp Nou; if this was us giving Xavi one last send-off at home in the competition, it was quite a way to do it. The game was already over by the time he entered the field, but the comprehensive nature of the win means that maybe, just maybe, Xavi could end the season and his career at FC Barcelona lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy. Very apt, don’t you think? |

Another late sub, as Lucho used his last couple of changes to kill some time and give some of the starters a well deserved ovation for their efforts. This time it was Andrés Iniesta who made way, and Rafinha came on to play a couple of minutes against his brother, Thiago. |
Marc Bartra |

Two years ago, Bartra probably experienced one of the worst night’s of his FC Barcelona career as he was thrown in at the deep-end against Bayern Munich. He didn’t play badly per se, but the final scoreline certainly didn’t do him any favours – but now, here he was, entering what turned out to be a blowout victory of our own over the very same club. Sure, he didn’t get many touches, but that must have felt good for the young Catalan. |

If the previous couple of matches were worthy of a perfect score...well, this one pretty much redefined the scale. Following the lead of the squad’s talisman, Lionel Messi, the team raised the bar to an entirely different level on Wednesday, utterly dominating not just any team, and not just any coach, but Bayern Munich and Pep Guardiola. Words cannot capture just how impressive this display was, although a word of warning: it all counts for nothing if we don’t follow through and claim the treble. Any less after such a mesmeric showing would be nothing short of an abject failure after all. |
Luis Enrique |

Arron says: 10.0
Pep Guardiola stole the headlines before the game, and Lionel Messi got the plaudits after the final whistle was blown, but where’s the praise for Luis Enrique? Culés have recognised the job he did on Wednesday, but the world’s media is lagging a step or three behind; because this win, this was all down to Luis Enrique. This was his blueprint for success. This was vindication. |

There was absolutely no doubt as to who will pick up the Man of the Match award this time. That's what you get for having a hand in all goals scored. Picking up the "leftovers" were actually all remaining members of the starting lineup, but Neymar (2%) and Saurez (1%) managed to squeak into the top three. |
