Even though Barcelona is banned from performing transfer moves in the upcoming summer window, the Blaugrana still have the power to make verbal agreements with players and sign them in January, once the ban is over.
And Barça has been actively searching through the market to find the best possible signings to strengthen a squad who’s close to winning the Triple Crown of La Liga (already in the bag), Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League. To make this team even better is a difficult task, but sporting commission director Ariedo Braida is up to that challenge, and the Transfer Master is all over the place trying to sign the best players.
One position the Italian is keen on improving is the midfield. Even though the starting trio of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Andrés Iniesta performed as well as any group in the world this season, the probable departure of Xavi Hernández leaves a big gap on that part of the pitch. With only Rafinha Alcântara and Sergi Roberto as backups for the future, and Barça B star Sergi Samper being too young to step into a bigger role in the A-team, a big midfield signing could prove key to maximizing the Catalans’ chances to repeat this season’s success next year.
There are a lot of names on the table, and each fan has their own preference. But one thing is certain: every option being considered is good. Ilkay Gunogan, Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti and Mateo Kovacic are all great players, but each one is the best for Barça?
