La Liga: FC Barcelona 2-2 Deportivo La Coruña: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's last La Liga match of the season.

Jordi Masip
6.0
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 27
Passes: 23
Pass Accuracy: 91%
Shots Faced: 2
Saves Made: 0
Cross Claims: 1

Bostjan says: 6.5

Not quite the La Liga debut Masip had envisioned as he faced two shots, but ended the game without a single save. To be honest, he didn’t have any chance of stopping either of them. Masip was also bailed out by the crossbar midway through the second half as he reacted slowly to a Haris Medunjanin free kick. Other than that Masip really wasn’t tested at all, but I do have to commend him for good passing.

Adriano Correia
6.3
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 110
Passes: 85
Pass Accuracy: 97%
Key Passes: 1
Turnovers: 2
Tackles: 7
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/0
Clearances: 2
Fouls: 3
Interceptions: 2

Bostjan says: 7.0

For the opening one hour Adriano put in a very "Alves-from-four-months-ago" performance as he basically played as a winger, but positives were hard to find in his play. The crosses were poor and the only shot he took went well wide of the target. Adriano’s defense was much better though, leading Barcelona players in tackles. For the last half hour, after the introduction of Douglas, Adriano switched sides, where Adriano continued to play solid defense, but with a bit more traffic getting by him than on the right side, but he didn’t have as many attacking responsibilities anymore.

Thomas Vermaelen
7.3
Minutes played: 62
Touches: 62
Passes: 57
Pass Accuracy: 93%
Tackles: 0
Interceptions: 1
Clearances: 2
Aerial Duels Won: 0

Bostjan says: 7.5

Making his Barcelona debut - over nine months after his arrival - expectations were low for Vermaelen. It was clearly evident that the Belgian wasn’t match fit just yet, but it was an encouraging sign that he played over an hour without making any major mistakes, though he did leave too much space to Ivan Cavaleiro in added time of the first half to allow a half chance to the visitors. Vermaelen did well to help Barcelona maintain possession with accurate passing.

Marc Bartra
7.5
Minutes played: 69
Touches: 77
Passes: 66
Pass Accuracy: 92%
Tackles: 1
Interceptions: 3
Clearances: 2
Aerial Duels Won: 0
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/0

Bostjan says: 8.0

Is it a coincidence that after Bartra was knocked out of the game in the 65th minute that Barcelona conceded two goals? Maybe, but while on the pitch Bartra always seemed to be in the perfect position to make the play – even if the play needed to be made deep in Deportivo’s half. The young Spaniard wasn’t tested much, but he continuously made things happen at the back for Barcelona. Bartra also tried to leave a mark in attack, trying his luck with two shots, but neither of them troubled Fabricio.

Jeremy Mathieu
7.0
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 84
Passes: 70
Pass Accuracy: 91%
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/0
Tackles: 2
Interceptions: 1
Clearances: 3
Key Passes: 0
Aerial Duels Won: 5

Bostjan says: 6.5

Mathieu got a surprise start at left-back for the last match of the La Liga season, but he performed his duties very well. In the first half especially he was very involved in attack - his cross was one of the key plays in the build up to Messi’s first goal of the match. As the game went on Mathieu’s attacking contributions diminished, but he remained a wall defensively, not letting anybody past him. He spent the last 30 minute of the game at center-back where he had less success, even picking up a yellow card for handball that was the starting point for Deportivo’s equalizer.

Sergi Roberto
6.8
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 124
Passes: 117
Pass Accuracy: 98%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Tackles: 1
Interceptions: 2
Clearances: 0
Turnovers: 2
Aerial Duels Won: 1
Key Passes: 0
Fouls Won: 1

Sam says: 8.0

A very good performance from Roberto in which he was involved a lot. He made the highest number of passes of anyone on the field and had a ludicrously high pass success rate of 98%. He helped maintain Barça’s midfield superiority and also put in a strong defensive performance with three interceptions.

Rafinha
7.6
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 122
Passes: 105
Pass Accuracy: 95%
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/0
Turnovers: 5
Key Passes: 1
Successful Dribbles: 5
Tackles: 1

Sam says: 8.0

Another good performance from Rafinha which showed promise for his first team chances next season. His passing was crisp, accurate and he created the first goal with a lovely bit of skill in the area before chipping the ball to the back post and a waiting Lionel Messi. His dribbling was also very good and he completed the highest amount of dribbles on the pitch.

Xavi
9.1
Minutes played: 85
Touches: 130
Passes: 120
Pass Accuracy: 93%
Shots/Shots on Target: 3/1
Fouls Won: 1
Turnovers: 1
Successful Dribbles: 0
Key Passes: 2
Interceptions: 2

Sam says: 9.0

In his final league game for Barcelona, he did what he has always does. Pass the ball, keep possession, look to create chances and be the team’s metronome. He hardly put a foot wrong with over 100 passes made and a success rate of 93% combined with two interceptions which just highlighted his immense ability to read the game. He didn’t get his goal but it wasn't through a lack of trying, he had three shots while only one was on target. Left the field with tears in his eyes and the crowd on it’s feet.

Pedro
7.0
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 46
Passes: 42
Pass Accuracy: 91%
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/1
Turnovers: 0
Successful Dribbles: 0
Key Passes: 1
Fouls Won: 1
Interceptions: 1

Ahmed says: 7.5

A good performance by the Spaniard whose off-the-ball movement was dangerous. Pedro was denied by Fabricio early in the first-half when a conversion on the rebound looked certain.  The Spaniard played a key role in the build-up to the second goal when he dropped deep and sent Neymar through on goal with a precise header. Ultimately, Pedro showed flashes of brilliance without really having much of an impact.

Lionel Messi
9.1
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 112
Passes: 97
Pass Accuracy: 80%
Shots/Shots on Target: 5/4
Fouls Won: 1
Successful Dribbles: 4
Key Passes: 1
Turnovers: 1
Tackles: 0

Ahmed says: 9.0

Scored the opener with a header and scored the second with ease after some good work from Neymar. Messi had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside early in the first-half and it was clear that another goal wasn't needed so energy was conserved for greater battles ahead. The Argentine was a constant threat and once again arguably the best player on the pitch.

Neymar
8.2
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 102
Passes: 75
Pass Accuracy: 88%
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/1
Successful Dribbles: 2
Key Passes: 3
Tackles: 2
Turnovers: 8

Ahmed says: 8.5

Always a danger and the Deportivo defenders weren't quite sure on how to deal with him. Indeed, it was something of an exhibition with flicks and tricks aplenty. The Brazilian unselfishly squared for Messi to score a tap-in. Many of Neymar's passes were sublime and he was incredibly close to having another assist or two. Fine margins.

Douglas 6.5
Minutes played: 28
Touches: 27
Passes: 25
Pass Accuracy: 96%
Tackles: 0

Arron says: 6.5

Perhaps more so than Thomas Vermaelen, poor old Douglas Pereira has been the forgotten man of this season's La Liga triumph. Signed amidst a wave of discontent, Douglas struggled in his first few appearances and was subsequently tossed aside for the remainder of the season -- last weekend's appearance was his first in La Liga since late September. With Dani Alves all but certain to exit the club this summer, what might the future hold for Douglas?

Javier Mascherano
7.3
Minutes played: 21
Touches: 26
Passes: 25
Pass Accuracy: 96%
Tackles: 1

Arron says: 6.5

Well, Luis Enrique never planned to use Mascherano in this match; instead he had former flavour of the month, Munir El Haddadi ready and waiting on the sideline until a rather nasty blow to Marc Bartra's face forced Lucho's hand. The Catalan defender couldn't continue and while Mascherano didn't put a foot wrong, Deportivo still found a way to equalise.

Andres Iniesta
7.6
Minutes played: 5
Touches: 8
Passes: 7
Pass Accuracy: 100%
Tackles: 1

Arron says: 7.0

The proverbial and quite literal passing of the touch; it was a superb touch to allow Xavi one last standing ovation from his adoring fans and it was made all that more perfect as Iniesta was his replacement. The armband was handed over, fittingly to a player who will likely command a similar outpouring of gratitude from the fans upon his future retirement or departure.

The Team 7.8
Passes: 935
Pass Accuracy: 92%
Shots/Shots on Target: 17/7
Tackles: 16
Aerial Battles Won: 100%
Fouls Won/Committed: 9/6

Arron says: 7.0

We did enough to win this game, and win the match comfortably but sometimes football can be a funny old game, hence Deportivo's late comeback "against all the odds". The truth is, as shocking as it seems on paper, this really wasn't all that surprising; they wanted it more. They had something to play for and when Barca really took their foot off the pedal, they capitalised. Kudos to them for that, and well, let's not read into this late collapse -- it's not like the two upcoming finals will mirror this performance at all.

Luis Enrique
7.7

Arron says: 9.0

In spite of the result, Luis Enrique didn't get an awful lot wrong with his selection on Saturday. He rotated a bunch of key names, got strong performances from the stars that he left in the line-up and gave Xavi a tremendous send-off. Who am I to mark him down based on a pointless result?

MOTM - Xavi
47%

Arron says: Xavi

I was pretty shocked at this one -- no, not because I didn't expect Xavi to win it; but because Lionel Messi nearly snatched this one off him for a rather pedestrian brace. I mean, Messi's scored about 1000 of them in his time at the club, but we'll only ever have one La Liga send-off for Xavi! So yeah, Xavi got 47% of the vote, Messi finished in second with 42% and Neymar completed the podium places with a respectable 6%.
