FC Barcelona v FC Bayern Munich: Messi magic downs Bayern (3-0) | FC Barcelona
It was proving to be a frustrating evening for FC Barcelona, with chance after chance going begging against Pep Guardiola’s well organised defence. But the last quarter of an hour produced a dramatic turn of events. Two fantastic goals from Messi suddenly put the Catalans in command, and a third in injury time from Neymar practically puts Barça on the flight to Berlin.

Pep Guardiola returned to the Camp Nou and was proved right. "There is no system that can stop Leo Messi," he had said, "and no coach, either." Not even him. Guardiola’s night became Messi’s night yet again, his name ringing round this stadium once more, the homage in Catalonia reserved for him and all else forgotten amid the euphoria. Two goals in three minutes from the Argentinian, both superb, opened the gates to Berlin and with seconds remaining Neymar burst through them to make it 3-0.

Luis Enrique going to Munich to win | FC Barcelona
"In the last 15 minutes we won the game but not the tie" said Luis Enrique after "an impressive result … But in Munich we will not be speculating with the result. Getting into the Champions League final is a very big prize and I am sure that the team will take the second leg as responsibly as they should".

Almost every game brings a new landmark in the career of Leo Messi. In the first leg of the semi-final of the Champions League against Bayern Munich, the Argentine reached a century of matches in Europe in a Barça shirt. 97 of those games have come in the Champions League and three in the European Super Cup in 2006, 2009 and 2011.

Five talking points from FC Barcelona v Bayern Munich | FC Barcelona
Messi and Messi. And a thousand times Messi. The best player ever stepped up to save Barça from a game that seemed to have stagnated. After 77 minutes, he received the ball on the edge of the area after a crucial recovery from Alves and placed a powerful strike beyond the reach of Neuer. Three minutes later he did something even better – he left Boateng stranded and then delivered a fine chip over his head of Neuer. Messi made all the difference tonight.

Luis Enrique’s side now have all but one foot in the final in Berlin in June after scoring three times in the final 15 minutes against the Bundesliga champions at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night. However, Mascherano says Barcelona must not take their eye off the ball in the return leg at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening if they want to keep alive their dream of winning the Champions League for a fifth time in their history.

Move over Messi, Alves deserves his dues - ESPN FC
It is tempting to suggest Alves was inspired to roll back the years by the presence of old boss Pep Guardiola. In truth, the Brazilian has been delivering with consistency for a while now. Much has been made of the resurgence of the likes of Gerard Pique under coach Luis Enrique but not enough has been said about his 32-year-old Brazilian teammate, who is playing like he's 25 again.

Guardiola was right - no system can stop Messi - Goal.com
Pep Guardiola cannot complain. He had Lionel Messi's magic for four formidable seasons at Barcelona. On Wednesday night, the Catalan coach was on the receiving end of the Argentine's astonishing abilities for the first time. The monster he helped create chewed up his best-laid plans.

Champions League: Thierry Henry lauds Lionel Messi's Barcelona masterclass - Goal.com
"Once again, how many times [are] we going to say that Lionel Messi just happened? That's just what happened tonight," Henry, who won the 2009 Champions League with the Argentine, told Sky Sports. "I think, as we talked about, Bayern didn't approach the game the right way at the beginning, but in the second half there wasn't a lot between the two teams. But then Lionel Messi decided to win that game.

Lionel Messi sets a new standard in Barcelona's memorable win vs. Bayern | ESPN
One of the greatest joys of watching Leo Messi, or reporting on him first-hand, is that just when you think you've probably seen excellence you'll never see topped, he goes and produces golden moments that supersede his previous brilliance and completely take your breath away.

Players feeling closer to Berlin | FC Barcelona
Barça are closer than ever to Berlin after a grandiose 3-0 win over Bayern Munich. Speaking afterwards, goalscorer Neymar said that: "the result gives a big lead, but it’s not definitive. We have to stay humble and calm – there are still 90 minutes left". On his team-mate Leo Messi he added that "it’s impossible to beat him. He is the best and I am always at his side to learn from him. It was a great game because both sides know how to play football."

Winners and losers: Barcelona's bombastic brilliance, Pep Guardiola's halo slips | Eurosport
This was a fascinating match, bookended by two 15-minute spells of ludicrous, frantic action: one of which could easily have put the tie beyond Bayern and another that probably has done. In between came an hour or so of tactical ebb and flow, the two best sides on the continent feeling each other out, jabbing and dodging like prizefighters in the Catalan night.

Bayern boss Guardiola not at fault for Barcelona loss | Sky Sports
Bayern, who were missing several players including Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and David Alaba, were put to the sword in the Nou Camp by two second-half goals from Lionel Messi and an injury-time strike from Neymar. But Koehler does not believe Guardiola's position will be under threat even if Bayern were to crash out of the Champions League.

Guardiola's philosophy at Barcelona was often misunderstood, however. Often considered an ideologue, there was no question that Guardiola drew heavily upon those La Masia concepts he'd learned in his teenage years at the famed youth academy -- the same concepts instilled in many of his key Barcelona players.
