Former Barcelona player Emanuel Petit says he’s happy with Dembélé

Ousmane Dembélé has taken some heat for reportedly refusing a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain that would have helped bringing Neymar back to FC Barcelona, but he has a French World Cup winner firmly in his corner, at least.

“Someone appeared, that finally, stands up to Neymar to say, ‘No, I don’t want it, I don’t want to accede to your demand, I don’t want to appease you, bow to you... I’m very, very happy with his reaction,” Petit said.

Petit, who scored the third goal in France’s 3-0 victory over Brazil in the 1998 FIFA World Cup final, was simply not impressed by the Brazilian’s actions.

“Neymar pressured Barça to leave Paris and now he cries, and I’m happy that a kid got in front of him and told him, ‘you know what? You will stay at PSG and you’ll stop bothering everyone.’”

Petit played just one season for the Catalans after a successful spell at Arsenal. Signed with part of the money Barça got for Luís Figo, Petit struggled to adapt and was hit with a series of niggling injuries. He left for Chelsea soon after.

In addition to winning the World Cup, Petit also won Euro 2000, the French league, and the English Premier League, among other honors.
