But the Red Devils did not want to sell
Victor Lindelof’s agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, reckons that the Manchester United defender was Barcelona’s top target in the summer after they missed out on Matthijs de Ligt.
Barca were heavily linked with a move for De Ligt but missed out when the Dutch star opted to sign for Serie A champions Juventus instead.
There were a few rumors of interest in Lindelof afterwards, and Cetinkaya says the Red Devils turned down several approaches from the Catalan giants.
”Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was perhaps Manchester United’s best player last season and with that comes interest from clubs who are better on the pitch right now,” he said.
“When Mathijs De Ligt chose Juventus, Victor became Barcelonas first choice. His play style, his DNA is very close to the way Barcelona plays.
”He’s one of the best center backs on his feet and Barcelona wanted him. That was it. I can talk openly about that now.
“They contacted Ed Woodward multiples times with concrete offers. I met with their head of transfers Matt Judge to try and get a deal through. But they said ‘There is no way. Victor is one of our best players’.”

Barcelona opted against bringing in another defender in the summer and have Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo as their four centre-backs for the season.
Meanwhile, Lindelof signed a new deal with Man Utd in September that will keep him at the club until 2024.
