Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli has denied claims he asked Lionel Messi for advice on whether to bring on Sergio Aguero against Nigeria on Tuesday.
Footage emerged after the game of Sampaoli talking on the pitch with Messi shortly before Aguero was brought on. The Argentina coach has now given his version of events.
“We looked at different options in an important game and had to make a decision,” he said.
”I was simply communicating this, saying we were going to use a strategy we had rehearsed to use more attacking players.
”It was a simple exchange I had with one of my players, that is all.”

There have been all kinds of reports coming out of the Argentina camp throughout the World Cup with some reports the players are picking the team and not the coach.
