Deschamps says France will try to ‘neutralise’ Messi

The two teams meet in the last 16 of the World Cup

France boss Didier Deschamps has been talking about Saturday’s World Cup clash with Argentina and how his team plan to handle Lionel Messi.

Messi was on target against Nigeria last time out when he scored a brilliant goal as Argentina won 2-1.

The Barcelona ace will be hoping to help Argentina into the quarter-finals with a win over France and Deschamps is well aware of the threat his team faces.

“Messi is Messi. You just have to look at his statistics: 65 goals in 127 matches with his national team,” he said.

”Hopefully we are able to neutralise him but we know very well he can make the difference on his own.

“We don’t have a specific plan for him, though. A plan is a big word. The idea is to limit his influence.

”When you play Argentina and Messi on the pitch there are several solutions to limit his impact.”

There have been plenty of rumors flying about with regards the team Argentina will put out against France. Speculation claims that Jorge Sampaoli will leave out Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero and use Angel Di Maria and Cristian Pavon alongside Messi as a false 9.
