Sergio Busquets Ready For El Clasico Return

Sidelined for the past three weeks with an ankle injury, Sergio Busquets could be in line to make his return tomorrow in El Clasico

Just a few short weeks ago, the Culé universe took a collective intake of breath as Sergio Busquets was maliciously chopped down by Tomas Piña. The former Real Mallorca midfielder didn’t receive a red card for his troubles, although he was later sent off for another poor challenge, this time on Neymar – while Busquets looked set for a long spell on the sidelines. The slow motion replay of the tackle certainly hinted at as much; yet later in the match, Busquets returned to the bench and fears about his long-term health were eased.

We’d gone from losing Busquets for the remainder of the season, to possibly only for a week or two; while the Manchester City match ultimately came too soon for Busi to make a comeback, the Catalan pivote had always pinpointed El Clasico as the match in which he wanted to make his comeback. And now, if reports from the Spanish media are to be believed, Busquets is on schedule and could be in line to feature.

Diario Sport reported yesterday that Busquets had entered the training facilities to continue his rehabilitation – even on a day off – and while he is yet to receive medical clearance, that’s believed to only be a formality. The only question is whether Luis Enrique thrusts Busquets right back into the starting line-up, or whether he keeps faith with Javier Mascherano.

It’s an interesting dilemma, but it’s also a good one to have – and whatever the case, our squad is much the stronger if Busquets is fit and healthy.
