Barcelona now has the opportunity to step up Real Madrid in the upcoming clasico thanks to a 1-1 draw against Villarreal.
Dear Real Madrid,
Thank you so much for the pitiful performance you displayed for us this past Sunday against Villarreal. You have officially created a wonderful opportunity for Barcelona to lead the table in points in the upcoming clásico.
From the moment the calendar brought an end to the 2014 year, the all-whites have been on a downward spiral of losses and draws. Not only were you knocked out of the Copa del Rey by your cross-town rivals, Atlético de Madrid, you were then humiliated by them in a 4-0 loss during league play. It must feel embarrassing to be in your shoes right now. I know that Barça struggled a bit before the Christmas break, but now that we’re plowing through the competition like a hot knife through butter, you had better watch out because our South American trident will be primed and ready to score. I can assure you that they’ll be bringing hell with them on that day.
Now, I don’t want to give you all of the credit for your stumble. Sure, your maniacally egotistical striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored Madrid’s only goal of the match on yet another penalty and he also managed to...wait, that’s the only thing he was able to do. Nevermind.
Look, the point I’m trying to get across is that Villarreal is a tough opponent. They played a great game full of high pressure, beautiful defending, and a performance by Ansejo that could’ve inspired the best of goalkeepers, including Saint Iker himself.
The yellow submarines have been incredible this season and are a formidable adversary. However, unlike los galácticos, Barcelona will surely fare much better when they go up against Villarreal this Wednesday in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
So thank you again Madrid, and tune in to watch in awe as the blaugrana show you what football should look like. But if you miss it, keep in mind that you will get a personal viewing of Spain’s top team come March 22nd.
