A look at the top headlines in Spain

Lionel Messi’s future continues to dominate the front pages in Spain as speculation continues over what will happen next with the Barcelona captain.

Manchester City appear the favorites and Mundo Deportivo run with a picture of Pep Guardiola and Lionel Messi along with the headline: ‘City on the Prowl’.

MD are reporting that Jorge Messi is already talking to the Premier League club and could meet next week for more discussions.

Of course the clause in Messi’s contract is still an issue, but Man City and Guardiola are seen as the best option for the Argentine if he wants to land the Champions League again.

Over at Sport there is also talk about Manchester City and a picture of Messi and his potential choices for next season. Their headline is ‘ Change In Sight.’

They report Messi remains firm in his decision to leave, but Josep Maria Bartomeu is insisting he stays and will do everything possible to keep him at the club.

Manchester City are mentioned as the frontrunners for Messi’s signature, but Manchester United, PSG and Inter are also mentioned.

There’s a slightly different vibe over as AS. ‘Barcelona Challenge Messi’ is the headline with news that the Catalan giants will do all they can to keep hold of their captain.

Barcelona will only accept Messi’s departure for a huge fee, and Bartomeu apparently wants Messi to explain his reasons for leaving to supporters.

Meanwhile, Marca have coined the whole saga ‘Mexit’ and go with a main headline of ‘City Take Advantage.’

The Citizens are willing to offer the Argentina international a three-year contract but know it’s a difficult operation.

Marca also add that Barca really don’t want to think about him leaving, reckon that Inter can’t be ruled out at this stage and expect Messi to train with Barcelona on Monday.
