No agreement for now on salary changes

Barcelona players have reportedly rejected taking significant pay cuts due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The move comes on the back of president Josep Bartomeu requesting that the first team players take a larger pay cut than the rest of the Barcelona organization.

“The proposal under Spain’s temporary redundancy scheme (known as an ERTE in Spanish “expedientes de regulación temporal de empleo”) would see all of the club’s professional teams lose 70 percent of their salaries while they are not playing during the State of Emergency.”

The proposal that Bartomeu is now said to be considering would make sure that first-team players wouldn’t have salaries cut by more than 50 percent.

La Liga was suspended indefinitely on Monday, although president Javier Tebas and RFEF chief Luis Rubiales have both insisted the 2019-20 season will be completed.
