The midfielder is currently on loan at Real Betis
Carles Alena may be plying his trade with Real Betis currently but it seems he’s not been forgotten by Barcelona and is in the club’s plans for next season.
Sport report that Quique Setien wants the midfielder at the club next season and thinks he’s a useful option to play between the lines.
Barcelona have already told Alena they want him in the squad for 2020-21, although the report also says he does have other offers.
It’s possible there could be less competition for places in the summer, with Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic tipped to leave, which may help convince Alena to stay at the Camp Nou.
The 22-year-old’s frustration at his lack of game time this season saw him activate a clause in his contract and go out on loan in January.
Alena has made 10 appearances for Betis in all competitions since joining the club two months ago but has started on the bench for their last three matches in a row.
