Following a very bad loss to Atlético Madrid in La Liga, Barcelona return to action in the Champions League with their fourth group stage game away to Dynamo Kiev in the capital of Ukraine.

Barça have been mediocre in the league but remain perfect in Europe, and Ronald Koeman’s only pathway to have a chance of keeping his job is winning the Champions League so it’s not a bad thing to have three wins in three games. Barça can actually qualify for the knockout stage if they don’t lose and Juventus also don’t lose to Ferencváros in the other game, which would be very important to allow this injured team to not worry about the final two matches in the group stage.

On top of six players missing due to injury, Koeman is resting Lionel Messi and Frenkie De Jong for this match which means a huge chance for “the others” to shine. Barça B defender Óscar Mingueza, Carles Aleñá and Francisco Trincão are all expected to get a chance to start, and those three have a big opportunity to show their worth with important injuries in those positions.

But this is all about Antoine Griezmann, who should lead the attack in this one and must take advantage of the chance to play without Lionel Messi. Philippe Coutinho must also play big if he starts, and those two have to be the reason Barça leave Ukraine with a guaranteed place in the Round of 16.

Dynamo Kiev come into this one still ravaged by injuries and a Covid-19 outbreak, but they proved at Camp Nou in the previous game three weeks ago that they can put up a fight against the Blaugrana, especially with all the absences on the Catalans’ side.

Let’s dance.

POSSIBLE LINEUPS

Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Ter Stegen; Dest, Mingueza, Lenglet, Alba; Pjanic, Aleñá; Trincão, Coutinho, Pedri; Griezmann

Dynamo (4-4-1-1): Buschan; Kedziora, Zabarnyi, Mykolenko, Karavaev; Tsitaishvili, Buyalsky, Shepelev, De Pena; Harmash; Supriaga

PREDICTION

I am actually excited to watch this team without Messi for once, and I’m expecting a big night out of Francisco Trincão if he gets the chance: 3-1 Barça.
