Juan Miranda Expected to Make La Liga Squad for the First Time

The left-back has not gone to train with the Spanish U19 team

Juan Miranda could be making Barcelona’s matchday squad in La Liga for the first time. The young left-back declined to go with the Spanish U19 team, which trains in Madrid on the 26th. That’s the same day Barcelona play Leganés in La Liga, and according to Diario SPORT’s Albert Rogé, “all signs point to him being in the squad” that day.

The 18-year-old has played four matches with Barcelona B this season in the third division, plus another in the UEFA Youth League. He had previously made the squad for Barça’s 2-1 win over Sevilla in the Spanish Supercup, where he was an unused substitute. Previous to that, Miranda had played various friendlies with the first team in this year’s pre-season.

With the departure of Lucas Digne to Everton and the loan of Marc Cucurella to Eibar, Barcelona do not have a natural left-back backup to Jordi Alba other than Miranda.

Will Ernesto Valverde trust him enough to start giving him minutes? Barça have been linked with a move for a fullback in the winter transfer window, but nothing concrete has begun to materialize yet.
