The Spanish champions are in the Czech Republic

Barcelona continue their Champions League campaign with an important away fixture against Czech champions Slavia Prague on Wednesday. The hosts have had a strong season until now, remaining unbeaten and top of their domestic league.

Barcelona on the other hand have had to toil for the number one spot in La Liga, beating Eibar on Saturday while Real Madrid lost to Mallorca.

Away games have always tested Barcelona but this is a great chance to clinch three points and gain some hard-earned momentum in Europe.

Let’s look at three things Barcelona can do to win this match:

Make a Fast Start

Barcelona need time to set the tempo from kick-off and really go at their opponents, as we’ve seen before how Ernesto Valverde’s side can falter whenever they don’t get time. It has happened several times already this season that Barcelona have suffered due to an early break and have then found it extremely difficult to cope with the mounting pressure, especially away from home. A fast start to the game by Barcelona is therefore crucial, while an early goal will also help settle the side.

Start Messi, Suarez and Griezmann

The Barcelona front three is a hot topic in world football as it has yielded mixed results so far. Though they are doing great individually, their connection is something that can prove highly beneficial in every game we play. The away match against Eibar was a great example of how the front three can operate our way to glory. It remains to be seen how Luis Suarez, who has suffered from an acute lack of goals in away UCL games, will cope during the 90 minutes but he heads into the game in strong goalscoring form. Let’s hope the connection with Messi and Griezmann enables Luis to end his drought and help the team clinch three points.

Make The Right Substitutions

Time and again, Ernesto Valverde has intelligently substituted players during the course of a game and that is something that deserves credit. The away match against Osasuna saw Ansu Fati and Arthur come from the bench to salvage a crucial point. Against Inter Milan, Valverde brought on Arturo Vidal who came on and supplied a vital assist to Suarez to level the game. Barcelona then went on to win the match. Bringing on a fresh pair of legs can turn the match and may be required in Prague. Clever substitutions can change the way the team is playing and leave the hosts in disarray. This should then give Barcelona a fresh start in terms of setting up things more efficiently and ensuring they are playing at the tempo they want.
