Time for some nostalgia with the Clasico postponed

Saturday was meant to be the first Clasico of the season, but the fixture has been postponed until December 18 (pending La Liga’s challenge in court). While this does mean we don’t have any league action to enjoy this weekend, it does give us an excuse to look back at some of Barca’s best wins in the fixture. So let’s jump right in...

19 November 2005: Real Madrid 0-3 Barcelona

This match saw Samuel Eto’o open the scoring in the 14th minute, only for the legendary Ronaldinho to score twice in the second half to give Barca an emphatic win at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While this victory assisted Barca on their way to becoming La Liga champions and further boosted them to Champions League glory, it was also the match that molded a legend.

After scoring two scintillating goals and providing fans with much entertainment throughout the match, Ronaldinho earned a reward that was previously unthinkable, namely a standing ovation from Real Madrid fans at the Bernabeu.

Here are some of Ronaldino’s magical moments from the game:

28 October 2018: Barcelona 5-1 Real Madrid

While there have many significant Clasico moments throughout the years, this match served as a recent reminder that Barca still have the magic touch. At a time when Lionel Messi was sidelined through injury and the Blaugranes were faced with a gruelling fixture list, the squad still proved that they had the skill to take on the reigning Champions League winners. A hat-trick by Luis Suarez along with a goal apiece by Coutinho and Vidal were enough to blast Real Madrid’s title challenge to smithereens.

21 November 2015: Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona

Any loss at home is embarrassing for Real Madrid, let alone a 4-0 drubbing. In this Barcelona masterclass, fans were reminded of the impact that Andres Iniesta had at the Camp Nou, as well as the cherished legacy that the former number 8 would leave behind upon his departure from the club.

For those who still fight uncompromisingly for Neymar Jr’s return to Barca, his performance in this match does well to build a strong argument in their favor.

8 January 1994: Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid

Back when Romario and Ronald Koeman were at the peak of their career, the Blaugranes defeated the Galacticos in what is referred to as La Manita. For those of you who don’t know, this Spanish term is used to describe a match where one team puts five goals past the other.

While both Koeman and Iván Iglesias put their names on the scoresheet, it was undoubtedly Romario who was the man of the match. The Brazilian legend bagged a hat-trick, a performance that would go on to contribute to his FIFA World Player of the Year Award.

29 November 2010: Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid

As if one Manita wasn’t enough, this chaotic game resulted in yet another exhibition of Barca dominance. Filled with fiery tempers and confrontations between the two great rivals, Barca overcame their frustration with Real Madrid and Ronaldo (who pushed manager Guardiola out of frustration), to put away two goals in the first half and three in the second. Among the goalscorers were the legendary Xavi as well as David Villa, who scored twice in the space of three minutes. This was also the season that the Blaugranes won the coveted treble.
