The visitors won but were unconvincing away from home

Sergio Busquets admitted Barcelona “suffered a lot” in their 2-1 victory over Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Ernesto Valverde’s side took an early lead through Lionel Messi but then found it tough going against a lively home side who equalised through Jan Boril.

Barcelona restored their lead in fortuitous circumstances when Luis Suarez’s effort from a tight angle went in via Slavia’s Peter Olayinka to gift the visitors all three points.

Busquets spoke about the win after the match and highlighted just how difficult the hosts had made life for the Spanish champions.

“It was a very important victory in such a tight group. It cost us a lot. We had the ball and possession, but in the end we suffered a lot,” he said.

“It’s a pity that we did not score a third goal. The second goal was a very silly one, a deflection. But it also counts.

“Ter Stegen is a lifeline for us. It’s very difficult to be a Barça goalkeeper, but he’s always reliable. Messi had a slightly difficult start of the season [due to injuries]. Now it’s important for him to gain rhythm.”

Barcelona’s victory does move them clear at the top of Group F but will not have erased doubts over their away form. They face Slavia Prague again at the Camp Nou on November 5.
