The club do not want to lose the young Frenchman
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu reportedly made it clear this week that despite Ousmane Dembele being in transfer rumors, the club isn’t close to giving up on him. The man in charge at Barcelona said that the club was “counting on you,” in reference to Dembele.
The question of his staying at Barcelona was reportedly voiced in a meeting with Dembele’s representation and Barcelona directors. There it was made clear from the Barcelona side of things that Dembele wouldn’t be included in a Neymar package. With the money that Barcelona poured into Dembele this doesn’t come as a shock.
Moving forward, the priority for Barcelona is to continue to bolster their roster with youth. The rumors of Neymar returning are likely to stay just that, rumors. The future of the club is players like Dembele and Frenkie de Jong. The farther Barcelona go to make those players feel prioritized, the better.
