Barcelona beat PSG to Frenkie de Jong - reports

The midfielder has reportedly agreed to move to the Camp Nou

There’s been a fresh update in the Frenkie de Jong transfer saga, and the latest reports suggest the midfielder has agreed to join Barcelona over Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Catalunya Radio, De Jong has informed both clubs of his decision and a delegation is expected in Amsterdam today to seal the deal.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reckons Barcelona will pay €90 million for the 21-year-old. PSG apparently dropped out after the bidding went over €75m.

PSG had been the favourites to sign De Jong in recent weeks, but the latest reports suggest a late push by Barcelona helped convince the midfielder to head to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona also appear to be offering huge wages in a bid to entice De Jong to Spain. The Catalans are willing to pay him €16 million a year, according to Goal. The deal breaks down as a net salary of €10m per season and then €6m in “relatively easy-to-achieve bonuses.”

The report also reckons that De Jong was “said to have been surprised” by the size of Barcelona’s offer.

Eric Abidal was asked abou De Jong on Tuesday as Barcelona unveiled Keving-Prince Boateng and said the club were waiting on his decision: “This question has to be asked to the player. He knows there is interest from many clubs and he will make his decision. We can only wait, like everyone else.”

De Jong’s future has dominated the headlines for the majority of the season, and it would be little surprise if there were further twists to come. As it stands though it seems as though Barca are back in pole position for the Dutchman.
