A guide to which Barca players will be at the World Cup

The season is over, the double has been won, but the work does not stop for most Barcelona players who will have a quick rest before heading to Russia for World Cup 2018.

Here’s a look at which players will be heading to Russia and hoping to write their names into the history books by lifting the famous trophy.

Brazil

Philippe Coutinho and Paulinho are both part of Tite’s World Cup squad and will be one of the favourites after an impressive qualifying campaign. Arthur, who Barcelona have an option to bring in this July, did not make it and gets a summer to hopefully prepare for a move to Europe.

Spain

Barcelona have four players in the Spain squad. Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta. Of course the legendary midfielder may not technically be a Barcelona player by then, but he still counts because he’ll always be one of ours.

France

Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele are both in a star-studded French squad. Les Bleus will be hoping Dembele is not too troubled by the sprained ankle he suffered in the final Liga match of the season against Real Sociedad.

Uruguay

Luis Suarez will be charged with bringing the goals for Uruguay, alongside PSG’s Edinson Cavani in Russia. Hopefully this World Cup will go a little better for Suarez then last time out in Brazil when he was banned for four months after taking a chunk out of Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder.

Argentina

It’s all about Lionel Messi for Argentina. Can the GOAT win the World Cup? It looks a tough task as Jorge Sampaoli’s side were a shambles at times in qualifying, but if anyone can do it, Leo can.

Germany

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is in Germany’s squad and he could well be the holders’ No.1. Joachim Low’s side will be big favourites to retain their title and have an impressive squad. Manuel Neuer is back to fitness after missing most of the season through injury but faces a battle with Ter Stegen who’s been brilliant this season for Barca.

Croatia

If you want to watch Ivan Rakitic at the World Cup then just watch Croatia in action. Croatia have been drawn in the same group as Argentina which will see Rakitic come up against Messi.

Belgium

Defender Thomas Vermaelen is part of Belgium’s World Cup squad and there’s plenty of talent in Roberto Martinez’s team. He missed the end of the season through injury but will be hoping injury does not strike again in Russia.

Colombia

Yerry Mina is in Colombia’s provisional 32-man squad for the World Cup. Colombia have a lot to live up to after making it all the way to the quarter-finals in 2014 where they lost to Brazil.

On the beach

There were a few Barcelona players who might have been expecting to go to Russia but will instead get a nice summer off. Lucas Digne missed out for France, Sergi Roberto was not included in Spain’s squad and Portugal overlooked both Nelson Semedo and Andre Gomes.
