Real Madrid have confirmed “a grade-two thigh injury” for Pepe, which rules him out of the capital derby against Atletico. A medical report on Madrid’s official website explained “after tests carried out on Pepe at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a grade-two muscle injury in the biceps femoris in his left leg, pending recovery.”

Espanyol secured just their second La Liga win of the season by edging past Real Betis 1-0 and heaping the pressure on their coach Gus Poyet. The Catalan side, whose own coach Quique Sanchez Flores is also feeling the heat, left Seville with three points to pull clear of the bottom three thanks to Diego Reyes' powerful second-half header. Betis almost equalised at the death but goalkeeper Diego Lopez denied German Pezzella with an acrobatic save.

Las Palmas rally from three down to draw with Celta Vigo | ESPN
Las Palmas staged an incredible comeback to recover from 3-0 down at the break to draw 3-3 at home to Celta Vigo. The Canary Islanders looked dead and buried as Daniel Wass' free-kick and an Iago Aspas brace put Celta in control but the second half was a different story as Pedro Bigas cut the deficit to two.
