Barcelona manager Luis Enrique backs Pep Guardiola to succeed at Manchester City

"Don't worry about the critics"

Pep Guardiola is going through a rough period as Manchester City manager, but one of his friends is confident he'll do well there.

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique was asked about Pep's six-game winless streak, which is the worst run of results in Guardiola eight-year career as a manager. That poor run of form has sparked a wave of criticism from a lot of people in England, but Lucho is pretty confident in Pep's ability to turn things around and have a lot of success at City.

In fact, Enrique believes Pep will win titles (plural) still in his first season with the Sky Blues, and Guardiola's brand of football will succeed in English football:

“I would say don’t worry about the critics [to Guardiola]. He will win titles this year with the football he was playing at the beginning of the season and with the football he’s always played.

“These critics and this criticism will always appear because people are bothered by the same people winning all the time. City will win playing good football and putting on a show.”

Having played with Pep and knowing as well as anyone how Guardiola's system works, Lucho is in a pretty good position to back his friend up. They clash for the last time in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday, and maybe that game will spark City into the success Lucho knows they will have under Pep.
