Report: Barcelona pursuing transfer of young La Liga defender

As Barcelona continue to search all over Europe for a much desired new center-back, they appear to have found a domestic solution.

According to multiple reports in Spain, the Catalan giants have made an offer for Las Palmas defender Mauricio Lemos, a promising 20-year-old center-back with many appearances for the Uruguayan national youth teams. Las Palmas have rejected a €4 million transfer offer from the Blaugrana, who would also pay an additional €8 million in performance bonuses throughout his five-year contract.

The La Liga club is willing to let the player go only if Barça agree to pay Lemos' release clause, of €30 million. The Blaugrana think the price is too high, but plan to make a new offer later this week, with a higher transfer fee (€7 million) and increased bonuses, plus a loan of a young player, most likely Sandro Ramírez.

Club scouts have been following Lemos since his days at the U-20 Uruguayan national team, and after he arrived at Las Palmas from Rubin Kazan last January, the scouting team continued to watch and give great reviews about the player. Lemos is a talented defender on the ball, which is great for Las Palmas' possession-based style. He's also a very physical player who's good in the air, and like Luis Suárez, he has that Uruguayan fighting spirit, which is never bad to have.

Barça will continue to chase Lemos, but even if they reach a deal for the youngster, he will not be the only signing on defense, as the Catalan giants still plan to sign either PSG's Marquinhos or Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi.
