The player’s injury record is worrisome, but his quality is undeniable
Bild has reported that Bayern Munich are considering selling Thiago Alcântara among other players, which represents both a risk and an opportunity for any buyer. A return to FC Barcelona has been rumored as a possible destination for the midfielder. although it is unclear at the moment how much the club wants him.
Thiago left Barcelona five years ago, and while he has looked brilliant at times, he has often been unable to cement himself as one of the best due to consistent injury struggles. His injury record is a huge problem; he’s missed 112 games due to injury at Bayern, while only playing in 153 games for them.
Thiago did not make the Spanish World Cup squad, and the end of the season for Bayern did not show him in peak form.
But it’s all these negative factors that make him an opportunity. His price tag could be relatively low. If he had stayed healthy, played great at the end of last season, and did well in the World Cup, for sure he would cost a lot more.
Let’s not forget Thiago was linked with a 100 million euro transfer to FC Barcelona last summer. I don’t think he would fetch a price nearly as high now.
Signing him would constitute a real gamble on his fitness, but perhaps it’s one the blaugrana should take. Maybe, with a change in nutrition, training, and a brand new medical staff, he could improve?
If the price is not too high, the risk is easier to justify. It may, in the end, come down to financial considerations.
