UEFA Champions League: Barcelona vs Juventus is Epic Comeback Time... Again?

No, it couldn’t be... right?

Barcelona lost 0-3 in the first leg against Juventus. So, tie over, right? There’s no way a team can come back from three down in the UEFA Champions League, right?

...Who am I kidding? Everyone knows Barcelona already did one better in the previous round, coming from 0-4 down to 6-5 against Paris Saint-Germain.

This is not so bad in comparison, funny enough. And it’s not as bad as needing 3 goals in the last few minutes to advance - as Barcelona needed against PSG, two goals down and with an away goals disadvantage.

But let’s be real here - Juventus don’t concede many goals. They’re arguably the best defensive team in the world. Scoring 3, even for Barcelona at Camp Nou, is the stuff of miracles. And how many miracles can a team be expected to perform in one season?

Let’s not forget that Barcelona really did fluke goals against Paris. There was an own goal, a brilliant free kick, two penalties, and one ludicrous Luis Suarez goal bundled over the line before Sergi Roberto’s winner. At least three of them were more or less gifts. Not to take too much credit away from Barcelona, but that needed nearly every lucky bounce to go the right way for it to come off, and it just barely did.

Can it happen again...? It would be foolish to say no definitely, of course, but it would necessitate another miracle. Even St. George quit after killing one dragon right? But when you pull off something like Barcelona did this season, nothing seems quite insurmountable...
