Four Barcelona stars knocked out of Euro 2016 as Spain fall to Italy

It is all over for Spain, and quite a few Barcelona stars are going home.

The two-time defending champions have been knocked out of Euro 2016 after a 2-0 loss to Italy in the Round of 16, with goals from Giorgio Chiellini and Graziano Pellè. It was an intense, nervous game that featured one of the best performances of the tournament from the Italians. Antonio Conte's side played perfectly on defense, sustained the pressure from La Roja and killed the Spaniards on the counter-attack.

After a formidable group stage, Spain is out in a painful way. Andrés Iniesta, who played so well in the first few games, was well marked and played below his usual form against Italy's fierce defense. Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets were also good in the group phase, but couldn't replicate their success in the biggest game of the tournament.

If there is a bright side to this, is that four of the most important Barça players will get a few extra days of rest before starting the preseason preparations with the club. But it is never fun to lose, especially for the reigning champions. And this Italy side is super scary. Super scary.

So Monday for Barça fans has Messi losing, Dani Alves leaving, and Spain losing. This is not fun.
