Euro 2016: 11 June 2016: Live Open Thread

Open thread for Euro 2016 matches played on 11 June 2016

The Euro 2016 started off with a bang - quite literally if you've seen Dimitri Payet stunner - yesterday, with France edging Romania by a score of 2-1. France made things difficult for themselves with poor finishing and a cheaply given away penalty, but when the dust settled the hosts managed just enough to start the competition in the best possible way - a win.

Today marks the first day of the Euro 2016 that three matches will be played.. First on the docket is Albania vs Switzerland at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens. An intriguing match-up that will see two brothers - Granit and Taulant Xhaka - play against each other - a fist in European Championships. As an interesting fact, nine members of the Albanian team could've played for Switzerland, while six members of the Swiss team could've chosen to feature in Albanian colors. The Swiss are touted as comfortable favorites and could in Group A give France a good challenge for first place.

At 6pm CET, Wales and Slovakia will take the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux stadium, ending Wales' 58-year big-competition wait. Led by Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, Wales will look to continue their feel-good story, but Slovakia will be a good measuring stick how far Wales can go. Slovakia doesn't feature any big-name players, but they are strong as a team, which they showed in the Euro qualifiers where they failed to win only three of ten games, with loses to Spain and Belarus and a draw with Ukraine.

Last on the schedule today is Stade Vélodrome in Marseille and the match of England against Russia. England are unbeaten in their last 22 regular/extra time Euro and Euro qualifier matches, but despite that impressive feat, Wayne Rooney and company aren't considered as one of the main favorites to win the competition. But they are considered quit eheavy favorites to brush aside a very well organized Russia team that has the potential to cause quite a few headaches to England manager Roy Hodgson.
