FC Barcelona has adressed most of its issues. The center-back search is over with the signing of Jeremy Mathieu, although another defender might be coming Camp Nou's way in the next week or so.
Now, with the possible departure of Dani Alves, and the still unknown extent of Martín Montoya's injury, the right-back section has become a liability in Barça's scheme. Luis Enrique plans to use a 3-2-3-2 formation, with a three-man line of defenders. Having at least one versatile guy in this line is vital for this system to work. That's why Mathieu was such a priority.
But what about having one more good, versatile defender in that line? What about Pablo Zabaleta?
The Argentine is a workhorse, who defends and attacks with as much intensity as you can get for the Manchester City's right-back. At the World Cup, he did a great job in that position for the Albiceleste, and was arguably the second best Argentina defender in Brazil, only behind Javier Mascherano, who is already a Blaugrana. Zabaleta is also a close friend of one Lionel Messi. Having the three together would help the locker room, and would also give Lucho even more flexibility to his scheme.
More importantly, Zabaleta would be a good alternative to Juan Cuadrado, who's just too expensive right now. He's Barça's last dream signing, but the €50 million price tag is high enough to discourage the Catalans.
The 29-year-old is a key component of Manchester City's success, as he forms a strong defensive unit along with Vincent Kompany and national teammate Demichelis. It's very difficult to imagine him leaving the Citizens, but if Barcelona wants him, would he be interested?
The answer is YES. Don't take my word for it. See what Zabaleta himself thinks of Catalunya's capital, where he played for years with Barça's rival, Espanyol:
Amo esta ciudad!!! / I love this city!!!#Barcelona http://ift.tt/1tKF3JY

Does that mean anything? Probably not. But with so many rumors surrounding Barcelona right now, including some sources saying that the next transfer will be a surprising one, Zabaleta's signing would certainly be a shocking deal.
The question is, would it be a good one? Talk away, Barça fans!
