Not long to go now; less than 12 hours separate FC Barcelona from the start of their 2014-15 La Liga campaign, as the Blaugrana look to get their season off to a winning start against lowly Elche CF at the Camp Nou. While it may be the start of a new season, some things never change in Catalunya; key players are injured, there are question marks surrounding the match fitness of others but overall, in spite of this, there's a positive atmosphere at the club and amongst it's fans.
It's likely this is down in the most part to the arrival of new head coach, Luis Enrique, who has strengthened the squad in the transfer market and implemented many of the key principles that inspired the club to glory under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. The intensity, the crisp passing, the off-the-ball movement; the past couple of friendlies have been like watching a re-run of a vintage Barcelona display from 2011 -- can the Blaugrana carry this form into the new campaign and into competitive matches?
Certainly, they could have been handed a tougher start. Elche barely survived their first season back in La Liga and struggled immensely on their travels. So, while they did hold Gerardo Martino's team to a 0-0 draw at the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, they slumped to a heavy 4-0 defeat in the season's corresponding clash at the Camp Nou. Something tells me they are in for a similar fate tonight, but what do you think?
