FIFA to Maintain Luis Suárez National Team Suspension

The Luis Suárez Saga still keeps going. And there's a new development today.

FIFA's Disciplinary Committee announced on Monday that it will maintain Luis Suárez's nine-game Uruguay national team suspension. Luisito received the ban after he attacked and bit Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during their match at the World Cup.

The bosses of world football won't revoke the decision, and the 27-year-old striker will not be able to play the next eight games for Uruguay, including friendlies under the FIFA banner. Suárez will also not be able to play the beginning of the 2018 World Cup South America Qualifying.

Now, that doesn't mean the chances of ending the four-month ban have gone away. Suárez will still testify at the Court of Arbitration for Sport this week, and the CAS has the ability of overturning the ban. And there's a good possibility that it will happen:

"On Thursday, Mundo Deportivo reported that Suárez's ban can be reduced to only two months, which would expire at the end of August. If it happens, he would be eligible to debut as a Blaugrana on the second La Liga match, against Villarreal. MD has received the information that the judges are inclined to decide in the favor of Suárez, considering the decision is unprecedented and possibily too harsh."

Luisito might be able to play for Barcelona sooner than expected. That will not happen for Uruguay, that's for sure.
