FC Barcelona News: 2 August 2014; Josep Maria Bartomeu Hints at More Moves, Training Camp in England Ends

Friday was Barça’s last day at St George’s Park. After five wonderful days enjoying the extraordinary FA facilities, the team is now off to Nice for the second friendly of the preseason.

The midfielder will be wearing his new shirt number for the first time in Saturday’s friendly in Nice. The Catalan wore number 28 when he made his first team debut under Pep Guardiola in the 2008/09 season, and then wore 16 for the next five years.


25 players for the penultimate session | FC Barcelona

The first team got back to work on Friday morning, with all 25 players that have made the trip to Birmingham working out on the pitch. As has been the norm this week, Luis Enrique worked with 17 players from the first team and 8 from Barça B. There will be one further session at the FA’s St George’s Park facility early this evening before the team head to France on Saturday morning for the second preseason friendly.


Ter Stegen: "It's all perfect, better than I expected" | FC Barcelona

Marc-André ter Stegen is absolutely loving his first few weeks as an FC Barcelona player. "It’s all perfect, much better than I expected" he told fcbarcelona.com in Birmingham. "What Barça do for us is incredible. It’s all perfectly organised, much more professional than at Mönchengladbach, and I just hope we have a good season."


Bartomeu joins the team in Birmingham | FC Barcelona

President Josep Maria Bartomeu has made it to Birmingham, where the first team have been training since Monday. He had supper with the players, as well as manager Luis Enrique and director of sport Andoni Zubizarreta, who has also been in England since Monday.

He also admitted that the club is still looking at the transfer market. "There are still things to so this summer" he said. "Both Zubizarreta and Luis Enrique have already told you. We’ll be discussing things while we are here."

It promises to be a very special night for four players in particular. New signings Bravo, Rakitic and Mathieu could all be making their debuts in France, as could Rafinha, who after returning from Celta on loan was unable play any part in the game with Recreativo Huelva due to injury.

This evening (8.45 PM CET), Barça play the second game of the preseason against OGC Nice at the Allianz Riviera, which holds 35,624 spectators and was first used less than a year ago, on September 22, 2013, for a Ligue 1 fixture between Nice and Valenciennes. One of the venues for Euro 2016, it was also used occasionally last season by rugby union’s RC Toulon.

The LFP have revealed that Real Murcia do not qualify for entry to the Segunda next season. Murcia’s financial situation doesn’t conform to League rules, it’s said, and is it stands they can’t compete in the second tier. A statement has been released on the LFP’s official website which adds Racing Santander have five days in which to provide further information on their financial status.
