A beautiful night at Camp Nou to honor the Chapecoense heroes and play good football
Barcelona finished their preseason in style with a win in the Joan Gamper Trophy, the traditional Camp Nou opener. This time the Blaugrana dominated Chapecoense on their way to an easy 5-0 victory, and the heroes and victims from last year’s tragedy were honored as well. It was a great night overall, and we saw another good performance from Barça.
FIRST HALF
Because this is Barcelona against a small Brazilian team, this was a glorified training session where the Blaugrana attacked, attacked, attacked, and attacked some more. They created a lot of chances, and Chapecoense goalkeeper Elias made an incredible number of saves.
Barça still scored goals, though. Gerard Deulofeu, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi found the back of the net with some great goals created by beautiful possession play by the whole team. Barça looked very good for the whole half, but the quality of the opposition has to be taken into account.
At halftime, it was an easy three-goal lead for the home team.
SECOND HALF
It was more of the same in the second half, even though there were a lot of changes. Luis Suárez and Denis Suárez scored, and the team kept going forward and creating chances. Both teams made many substitutions towards the end, and the final minutes weren’t exciting. That’s if you don’t count Paco Alcácer, who missed a penalty and the rebound in the last play of the match.
In the end, a great night of football and a chance to remember the victims and honor the heroes. Another Joan Gamper Trophy is in the books, and this one was truly special.
